The Hostelz.com Review
A fantastic, brand new hostel about a twenty-minute walk from the bus station, Hippo Hostel is simple enough to get to if you follow the excellent map and directions they give on their site.
This place has everything you could want. It's located in a house about a half hour walk from the old town and has a separate big common room outside away from the main house with couches, a small but growing book exchange, travel guides, a big TV with cable, dvd player, a bunch of movies, and an old style Nintendo game console, if that's your thing.
The rooms are very clean, have comfortable beds, aren't crowded, and all have windows for some fresh air. The new shower/toilet combos are kept immaculately clean and there's three of them, so it doesn't get crowded. There's a fridge, a large fully equipped kitchen, a mini grocery store right across the road open till late, free very fast internet, mini lockers for your valuables, and cheap laundry (hang dry) also. The free breakfast is muesli, juice and some pastries, plus you get a free beer/shot/glass of wine for each night you stay.
The couple that run and own the place are very friendly and more than happy to help you out with anything you need to know about Budva, day trips around Montenegro, and a bunch of other activities besides. What more can you ask for?

i stayed 5 nights, more time than i've stayed in any 1 place in my travels for the last 10 weeks. it's a cool place, plenty of different fruit to pick from the garden, a store selling cheap beer right across the street, good tunes and plenty of good movies in their dvd library if you're into that too. good for independent and small group (like 2 or 3) travellers. good people, good times....

Great for social atmosphere! The owners were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and travelling to different areas, as well. The bbq area and TV area were super convenient, as well. We really enjoyed our stay at the Hippo Hostel and are hoping to come back sometime during the main season. It looks like they have a ton of options and things going on for the main season (we were one of the first guests of the season, so the city isn't up and running as it would be in the high season).

I loved this place! Its truly a home away from home, i never wanted to leave. I booked for 2 nights and ended up staying for 10. the staff are great, marcus is a legend, and the place is perfect for meeting other travellers. there is a lot of common areas where you can just chill and hang out. its also easy to go out as a big group as its quite small so everybody gets to know each other. i HIGHLY recommend this place, you must go there. you won't regret it. :)

Large garden and outdoor common area, free internet, full size kitchen and a substantial free breakfast including eggs, bread, jam, cereal, etc...Helpful staff, Marcus arranged a kayaking trip for us and there are lots of other day trips including rafting and going to Albania. Overall a real nice place without the touristy feel of Budva.

Great place to meet people, staff were really helpful. It's a little way out of town, but that's probably a good thing.

I had no plans of stopping in Budva until a series of small disasters landed me there. I stayed five nights which I happily would have turned into five weeks. Hands down the best place I've stayed in the twenty-some countries I have visited. Montenegro also turned out to be one of my favourite countries. This place is fantastic. — Michelle (2006-11-04)

Fantastic hosts! Very personalised, very helpful, informative, and great fun. Completely new hostel with all the facilities we expected but lots of extras we didn't expect. A little hard to find. We were only planning on staying two nights but ended up staying a week -- felt like had just been staying with friends in Budva. Highly recommended! — Jason Bryce (2006-05-01)
