The Hostelz.com Review
Backpackers House BCN is ok if you're just staying for a night or two, but not much longer. They have free internet, free linen, free breakfast, and free luggage storage. The staff are very nice.
The Location
The hostel is situated conveniently to the main spots in Barcelona, just a couple blocks from Playa Cataluyna. When you come out of the Cataluyna metro station go right, take a left onto R. Universitat. Walk a little ways down until you come to Balmes, and take a right. Then the first road should be Gran Via, so take a left. The hostel is a few places down on the left. It's about a fifteen-minute walk from the metro station.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Rooms are very bare and it looks like you're in a jail cell with basic bunks that aren't that comfortable. It gets pretty hot at night, as there is one fan but it's a small floor model that doesn't really cool down the room. There are lockers in the rooms but you need your own padlock. There is a decent amount of showers and toilets with enough room to change in them but they definitely aren't the nicest or cleanest.
Common Spaces
There's no real "social" area for hanging out, so there isn't a lot of mingling with other guests at the hostel. The hostel does have free luggage storage, which is great. They also have free Wi-Fi, but no one was able to connect on their own personal computers. They have two computers in the hostel for everyone to use for free. They also have a fridge, so you can bring food and keep it in there. The breakfast is very bare -- just tea/coffee and toast and cereal.
Summary
The hostel is very basic, especially for the price -- we wouldn't stay there again. The staff are very nice. There are free walking tours in town, but this hostel didn't have any information about them. All in all, it wasn't a horrible experience but we're glad we only stayed there one night.

Only location It was not a hostel exactly. It was an old flat whose rooms are rented. Door was awful without a real lock. Balcony of the room is covered with window and used as bathroom. But the door of the bathroom could not be closed and had almost transparent glass. So you can easily see all what is going on in the bathroom. No heating in february, uncomfortable and noisy bed.
