The Hostelz.com Review
The Location
Following the directions to Split Hostel Booze & Snooze may seem like working out a puzzle for the first-time visitor to Split, especially through the maze of cobbled stone streets within the Diocletian Palace. Pushing passed the crowds and busy cafes, the hostel is located in a little alley way behind a Tisak newspaper stand in Narodni Trg. Bear in mind that you may be accosted by some locals asking if you are looking for a sobe (room).
Rooms and Bathrooms
The mixed dorm rooms with ensuites are compact and cheerful, making it more of a social space than sleep zones. All rooms have air-conditioning and heating. There are no private rooms. The floral fragrance of fresh linens and duvets are a nice touch. The pillows and mattresses comfortable and well-maintained. Each guest receives a key for a locker and a room key. Towels are available to hire. Bathrooms are small and cleaned on a regular basis, but there is a lack of hooks/shelves to keep your stuff dry. Hot water is available and the water pressure is adequate. It takes a while for the hot water tank to reheat, especially if you take your shower after those who are addicted to taking long showers.
Common Spaces
During the off-season, there is a common room with makeshift couches, television, a DVD player with a selection of movie titles, and a microwave oven. When summer arrives, the common room is converted into a spare dormitory. Free internet access is available at reception. Wi-Fi access is in all rooms and fairly standard. While there is no kitchen, there is a quiet terrace with lots of room for leisurely drinks and the English-speaking staff will point you in the right direction for cheap food and nightlife. The vibe is social and relaxing.
Summary
Split Hostel is a sweet little space to "snooze and booze" with like-minded travelers within a safe environment. The Australian staff are well-traveled and are a powerhouse of information on Split and Croatia. The girls would be more than happy to help you with planning your itinerary in Split with recommended tours, bars, clubs, restaurants, and sightseeing. It's a fun introduction to Croatia's Dalmatian coast.

Extremely pooor worst hostel I have ever stayed in out of Great Britain, Eire, and europe.
Needs lots of maintenance and needs a good clean. — Anonymous , australian (2011-08-14)
Cramped, unclean, unwelcoming When I arrived I found the receiving area to be cramped, unclean, and unwelcoming. I asked if there were lockers for luggage and the person in charge walked in on a fellow sleeping on the floor and opened a locker still littered with old debris. The shower is an arm's length away from the people standing in wait to pay. No privacy there. No evidence of a broom used to clean up the outside stairs or landings. I paid a high fee for the prebooking and promptly left. Not recommended! — Angela , Canada (2008-07-18)

Numero Uno This hostel is the best. I arrived without a reservation, and the girls found a place for me. Everybody, staff and guests, were all friendly -- even to an old geezer like myself. When I finally left the hostel I got a fantastic send-off, with picture taking, lots of hugs from the girls, and mad waving from everybody, as I biked across the plaza. I felt as though I was leaving my family. I hope to go back to Split some day, and when I do I will certainly head directly to the Split Hostel. — Maurice , Canada (2007-09-07)

I have stayed in hostels in thirty-four different countries on four continents. Have found some good and not so good ones. But beyond a doubt -- this is the absolute best place I have ever stayed, bar none! The location, the rooms, cleanliness, everything was absolutely awesome. And I have never met a more helpful and friendly staff anywhere! Though I hadn't planned to overnight in Split at the end of my trip, I did it anyhow just so that I could stay here again and I think our little group of Australian, Irish, and American backpackers kept the local take-with pizza place in business and the beer stock at the local supermarket suitably low with our nightly gatherings on the terrace. — Chad (2006-11-18)

I had such a great time at this hostel that i had to leave before my liver died. The staff were amazingly helpful even when i was being a pain in the ass at the busiest times. Everyone would get together for drinks on the terrace at night then the staff would come with us after closing time to show us the best hot spots to rage on. The place was clean, tidy, and right in the heart of town, with heaps of information of stuff to do. Ive been tempted to come back. — chrissy lang (2006-10-16)

From the word go I knew this was the place for all backpackers. I can't reiterate how friendly Korana and Maria are. The staff are all fantastic, helpful, and fun. These beautiful girls know the best Split has to offer from food to scenery. Paul knows how to party and relax and he even knows the best spots to catch a football match. This place has the cleanest rooms, and beautiful bathrooms! Best location in town. Trust me, the only place to be in Split. — Jeremy Prince (2006-10-11)

This is by far the best hostel I have stayed in. They are located right in the centre of town. The hostel is clean. The staff is really helpful and heaps of fun. Would definitely recommend. — Nerida Livingstone (2006-07-24)
