The Hostelz.com Review
Hide on Jeckell Hostel is a nice three-floor building (although only two are accessible to guests). The ground floor being on half floor, most of the rooms are half on the basement but still get day light. The five rooms downstairs are named after continents so you can be sleeping in Asia, Africa, or Australia.

There are several bathrooms all over the building. They have a nice and well equipped kitchen even if it is sometimes small for the twenty-two guests. Around 7:30 p.m., you will have to be patient but there is also the patio (meant to be the smoking corner) and a jacuzzi for up to five guests ($10 for thirty minutes).

They serve nice, fresh coffee in the morning. You will also get fresh linens and a towel upon arrival. The hostel boasts a great book exchange and library corner, lots of games, and CDs. There are two computers for free use and a guests' phone to receive phone calls or call local numbers for free. It's clean and comfy and just feels like being home. The hostel is a nice place to relax, hang out, and do nothing -- or meet other fellow travellers.

Detlev, Renate, and their team are friendly and will help you to organize your trip further North -- Dawson City and the Tombstones are a must do. There is a house cat (Piko) that loves the Asia room so be careful if you're allergic to those friendly pets.

Not very friendly, especially sebestian
first off i stayed in this hostel in august and again in september 2007. in august i stayed for three days and in september for eleven days. while at first it was a very friendly place, there were a few other people staying in the hostel for a few weeks (long term), mostly women, and it seems it was the the night manager sebastein that preferred women who could stay unlimited amount of time. even when i asked if i could extend my stay by two days i was told it was a maximum of ten days. there were many women there who were staying there upwards of a month and forming a group which other guests i met at the hostel commented on as well saying that they made people who were staying maybe one or two nights feel uncomfortable. I subsequently met another person who had been staying at the hostel a tourist who was also like me told that he had outstayed his welcome even tough he got on very well with everyone maybe apart from the night manger. Overall this was a very weird situation, may i add i had no complaints about the hostel itself -- it is very well equipped and has lots of guidebooks and the rooms a spacious plus there are lots of bathrooms and showers, but having said that it is one very weird place to stay in.

Fabulous
I've traveled through New Zealand, Australia, Europe, Alaska, and Costa Rica and can say that this was one of the top three hostels I've stayed in. Stayed here for a couple of days last summer; the staff was super friendly and helpful, Sebastin in particular, really clean, great kitchen, super organized fridge, and shelf space to store your food, great selection of games and books. Met lots of cool people -- made for some fun games of pictionary and scrabble! Would definitely stay there again if in Whitehorse again.

After traveling for almost two years in the Americas (South, Central, and North America) I want to say that this hostel was one of the best. Extremely well organized and clean -- it was the only hostel on my travels with really sharp kitchen knives! The owners are very friendly and helpful -- they have spent quite some time in Central and South America, and exchanging travel experiences with them was really enjoyable. This is one of the very few hostels where you do not have to wait for an available bathroom. They have four bathrooms with twenty-four hours of hot showers and great water pressure (after two years on the road you do not take things like that for granted!).

What a breath of fresh air! This hostel was terrific. Scores of board games, hundreds of cd's, bookcases of reading material (in every language imaginable), bikes, and a good location all helped make my time there enjoyable. As others have mentioned, the place is completely immaculate, bathrooms included. There is even a shampoo/conditioner dispenser in the upstairs bathroom. The computers worked well and had fast internet connections. There is a telephone for free local calls also. This is definitely an awesome place to stay, and friendly for those of all ages. The only possible negative here is that you cannot do your own laundry. You fill the washer and the hosts have to start the machine and transfer it to a basement dryer, then return it to you. I guess I'm odd -- I prefer not having other folks deal with my wash. (Oh, the coffee is strong. You'll surely be growing hair on your chest after drinking that stuff, so ladies, please beware.).

Fabulous place. The friendly and helpful owners have thought of everything. There's a large, comfortable common room with music, books, games and plenty of seating. The kitchen is fully equipped, spotlessly clean (like the rest of the hostel) and has two seating areas! There are separate food bins (identified by pictures which match the ones on the bunk beds) — refrigerated and on the shelves. The dorm rooms are large enough for everyone's packs and there are plenty of bathrooms. Oh, and did I mention the delicious morning coffee? I wish I could have stayed in Whitehorse longer, just to stay in this hostel.

A very welcoming hostel with genuinely friendly and helpful staff who also love to travel. It has free Internet and free local calls and a fine collection of board games, CDs, and a book exchange for travelers. I stayed here twice and so far it has been my favorite hostel in Canada. I do recommend it highly.

I've stayed here and I think this place just has an edge. The hot tub helps. It has a very international feel; each room is a different geographic theme. It has a huge library, friendly hosts, free Internet and phone, and feels very accessible. It's closed in the afternoon, but I could get in when I needed to. It's clean and has two shower rooms, a porch in the back to have breakfast, and lots of info. And bikes! They are very good to get around Whitehorse. I'll stay here again.

I stayed here twice. Once in mid-May and once in early June 2005. It's one of those awesome hostels that feels more like a big house than a hostel. Big shelves of books, a large CD selection, two computers with free internet and CD burners, AWESOME hosts, plenty of tourist information. Very friendly, and completely welcoming of diversity. There seemed to be a multicultural cookup happening every night, and they are completely welcoming of all sexualities. I would HIGHLY recommend this hostel. My only note would be to warn that the jacuzzi isn't free - ask about price if that is important to you.

This is such a great hostel!!! The hosts are terrific and I met more cool fellow travelers here than in any other hostel in Western Canada. What a great place to stay.

I could see the Northern Lights! I am very happy! And this hostel is very nice and very clean. People are very friendly. I could write and read Japanese on the computers and the Internet is free. I want to come back!

I've been all over the world, always staying in hostels — and this is one of the best!! The library was awesome, there was 24-hour free Internet, 24-hour clean, hot showers, and what a well-equipped kitchen! The whole place is incredibly clean and the people are cool! And there are enough free bikes for everybody.

Amazing place. Having stayed in many places around the world, I found this 'Hostel' to be among the best. It is more like a Bed and Breakfast, with a shot of warmth and character, than any hostel I have been to. What a jewel of the north. We'll be back.

Very clean, very organized and with all the comforts one could think of. This is a place one can relax and get fresh energy for an ongoing journey. There were a lot of Japanese lodgers when I stayed there, so conversation with other guests was a little difficult.
