Irkutsk is a pretty Siberian town with a classic feel thanks to the wooden architecture, and the Irkutsk Downtown Hostel hostel is centrally located to help you enjoy it.
The place is small, with only 10-12 beds total, but this isn't a major tourist town, so its size is adequate. The hostel is clean and cozy, with a very nice clean bathroom and lots of hot water to wash days worth of train smell off of you. On the downside, the beds are only mildly comfortable. They have a fully stocked, equipped kitchen with refrigerator, and a convenience store is located just outside.
The staff are extremely nice and helpful considering their limited English capabilities. They have quite a bit of information about tours of Irkutsk and Lake Baikal as well as travel info to the rest of Russia and Mongolia. City maps are given upon arrival with important places marked. Also supplied are luggage storage, handy for camping trips, and one internet terminal.
They will pick you up from the train station if you give advance notice. If you are one of the hardcore that makes it out to Siberia, you'll have a good time at this cozy place near the town river.
