The Hostelz.com Review

The Green Lizard Hostel provides the best set of directions of any hostel. If you somehow don't understand them or get lost in the middle of them, just keep going uphill, because the hostel is on the side of hill. This location provides the hostel with a stellar view of the bay and islands around Hvar.

It takes less than ten minutes with a full pack to walk from the ferry landing at Hvar Town, and only a few more from the bus stop to reach the hostel. From the hostel, it is less than five minutes to a grocery store and a very nice, small beach.

The hostel is either new or recently remodeled. Everything from the kitchen, the terrace, and the rooms to the bathrooms is spotless and cleaned daily. The rooms are not overly large, but they are cool and uncrowded, with sufficent toilets/showers for everyone. Internet would be an advantage, but there is a place by the bus stop.

The owners are friendly as are the other guests. They will let you store your luggage for free after you check out if you don't leave until later. If you are only staying one night, they do charge you a small supplement, about ten kunas.

Truly a relaxed hostel, with great location, people, and facilities.

Bloody excellent
We loved everything about this hostel and the lovely tonina who looked after us above and beyond the call of duty. the green lizard is great, new, fresh, and clean. close to everything. really great atmosphere. very, very hospitable in more ways than one. must stay at green lizard.

Excellent location, clean, fun with a friendly staff
As perhaps the only hostel in Hvar, Green Lizard could afford to slack off on the little things -- but they don't. Rooms were very clean, as were the bathrooms (very important), and the fact that they had a kitchen was great for those looking to save money by cooking (not a lot of cheap places to eat in Hvar town). Offered a laundry service for a reasonable price and your clothes dry in the sun, the way it's meant to be. While the inside of the hostel was nice, most of the action happens outside, where they have a great terrace facing the sea. Good place to take in some sun and then chill and make friends over a few drinks. There's also a nice picnic table on the other side of the hostel, which is in the shade if you want to get away from the heat. Good location, quick walk to the harbour, easy to find your way around. The way this place is laid out makes it super easy to meet people and hit it off right away. Solo travelers -- you know this is important! Overall, I had an awesome time there -- can't you tell?

We loved this place, good banter. Sometimes the owners liked us, sometimes they didn't. Close to town centre and you can usually find people to walk back with. They piled extra people on our floor so you felt a bit packed in. The lack of window above the bathroom door meant we heard everything. Overall we would recommend this place and we would return.

This place was great and the only hostel in Hvar. The sisters that run the place are helpful and sweet. It was clean, close to town, and also had great terrace and kitchen. I would definitely recommend this hostel and hope to visit Tonina and Vanessa again.

I had a brilliant time at the hostel. It is spotless and the beds are comfortable and sturdy. You have access to a kitchen and fridge so can actually make food for yourself and save a bit of cash. The girls who run it are sweet and friendly and help you in any way that they can. There's also a lovely outdoor space where all the guests get together to drink (either BYOB or buy beer at the hostel) and chill out before going into town at midnight. Well worth a visit.

I stayed here about three years ago and was one of the first guests, they had only opened that day and although they had not done any work to the property -- no proper facilities for a backpacker, it was one of the greatest places I have stayed in for round the world trips with staff equally as fantastic. They explained what they were planning to do to the property and by the site/hostelz.com it appears that they've pulled it off. All I can say is that one day, I may very well stay here again for a fantastic stay/time.

Great hostel, only proper one in Hvar. Try and go when the kitchen is open as otherwise it can get a bit more expensive when eating out all the time. Fairly accessible beach and the gardens are nice with clean dorms. Tonina the hostess is very sweet, don't bother her too much. There is a book exchange, but it is secret, so ask for it. Some decent ones to be had.

Green Lizard gave away our beds when we arrived at 6 o'clock instead of 5 o'clock, even though we confirmed two times and called that day to say we were coming. It is obvious that they are more interested in making money than operating an organization with accountability to their guests. I warn any guests that they should be wary that they can totally trust they will have a room when they show up.

The fact that this is the only real hostel in Hvar, which for a solo traveler is the way to go, scores this hostel 3 stars. However, it's clean, social, and the staff are friendly. I'm not sure if the kitchen will remain open, but even if it doesn't, this hostel is worth a stay over a private room, which also has no kitchen. It's close to the main town, which is another plus. I met some really cool people here.
