Excellent
My daughter and I stayed here six nights and loved it. We play to go back for a week in 2010. We stayed upstairs with a wonderful view of the Eiger, Monch, and the Jungfrau. It is within easy walking distance of the train station and entire village. There is a laundry mat and computers. Loved it. The owners were also wonderful and very helpful.

The best I have ever been in
I've stayed in many hostels and this is the best. Feels like family.

Amazing
We stayed here in a double room at the start of November 2007. I can't sing its praises highly enough. Firstly, the owners Alfred and Martha welcome you in as a friend rather than a customer and are genuinely interested in making sure you have a wonderful stay. The place has a genuinely warm and friendly vibe and feels a lot more like home than any other hostel or hotel I have ever stayed at. The hostel is housed in a typical Swiss lodge, which adds to the experience. The place is spotless (they provide slippers to wear inside, leave shoes at the door). There are kitchens (spotless) on the lower and middle floors, with ovens, microwaves, stoves, fridges, and all the equipment required for cooking and eating. Large bathroom (spotless) with multiple showers/toilets on the lower level and one or two other bathrooms also. Keycard access to the lodge and rooms. Most rooms apparently have balconies - our large double room had an amazing balcony with a view of the valley and Alps. Prices were extremely reasonable. Just a two-minute walk from the train station and supermarket. Laundry (washers/dryers) and internet available at a cost, although wireless access is free and Alfred even let us use his laptop for free. The village of Lauterbrunnen itself, and the Jungfrau region it is part of is absolutely stunning. I was genuinely sad to leave this amazing place. I would go back to the Valley Hostel ahead of anywhere else I have ever stayed before.

Top Notch
I stayed at the Valley Hostel for two days this last (2007) summer. A better hostel you will not find anywhere. Martha and Alfred are perfect hosts and are very accommodating. The hostel is spotless, and the kitchen facilities are excellent. There were a lot of young Koreans at the hostel, and they are a nice, courteous, pleasant people. One of the best memories of my trip was sharing a meal with two Korean guys. They had a very limited knowledge of English, and of course I knew absolutely no Korean, but by keeping my words very simple and doing lots of sign language and with pencil sketches on paper, we got along great. I plan to ski in Switzerland this coming winter, so I will head to the Valley Hostel for part of that trip.

Typical, small, friendly family-run hostel in a quiet Swiss village. Our double room was clean, spacious and had a terrace with a superb view of the mountains. Kitchen is also the cleanest ever seen around hostels and the owners even re-clean the kitchen themselves and the end of each meal is something is not spotlessly clean as they wish the next guest will find. Toilets and showers are downstairs. They were clean and nice as well, even with some amenities like hairdryer, but while one of us was taking a shower the light automatically switched off after a certain time and that was scary. During our stay the place was full of Koreans. We read the guestbook and it confirmed our impression that this hostel is very popular with guys from such country. I don't know why. As soon as you pass through the little hall at the entrance you are asked to leave your shoes in the hall and put slippers to access to the rooms. You can book in the morning at the reception activities for the same day like river rafting or canyoning at the same price you would pay booking directly with the activity centre. The only negative things we found were the noise of peepls slamming the doors of the rooms close to yours and the bad and very cold weather (in August) but this is not much related to the hostel.

The best hostel/Guesthouse/Hotel I've ever stayed in (I think that I've been at about three hundred to five hundred hostels around the world in the last eleven years), leaving all the others way behind. First, the family, especially Martha and Alfred, extremely kind, creating a warm atmosphere all around, helpful with hiking idea. The place is shine-clean, the kitchen and the dining rooms are big and perfectly equipped, the showers and the toilets are bright. As for the price -- you won't find cheaper in Lauterbrunnen. You can even use their laptop for free!

Simply the best. We stayed here in June of 2006, and this is by far the best hostel I've ever stayed at. I completely recommend this hostel. First, the views are incredible. The facilities are clean and plentiful -- a medium sized kitchen and bathroom on each floor of the chalet (these two floors are devoted entirely to private rooms), a huge, professional-style kitchen on the main floor and multiple bathroom facilities on the bottom floor. Everything is spotlessly clean and new. The family built the hostel themselves, so every little amenity you might need is thought of. For instance, there are plenty of dishes and cookware, drawers or baskets where you can store your unrefrigerated food, a basket of free food on each floor, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and even a very reasonably priced fondue dinner, prepared by the family! The prices are reasonable, especially compared to Interlaken. It's very easy to get to Interlaken via train, and there are multiple hiking trails accessible basically out the front door. There's a grocery store (Coop), cheese shop, butcher and bakery right up the street, and all are reasonably priced. Final thought -- stay here.

I stayed her in October 2005. Rooms are very clean. We stayed in a double room which had a balcony from which the views were incredible. Shared facilities were clean, and kitchen had everything required and could handle a crowd. Staff are great, you can leave your bags at the hostel if you arrive in town early or want to leave late. Such an affordable place to stay in such a beautiful location, make sure you get to Lauterbrunnen when travelling to Switzerland.

Super place. Run by a great family. It's in a cozy and beautiful location. You won't want to leave. If you're visiting the Oberland, this is the ideal place to stay. Thanks Alfred, Martha and family for a great stay!

My friends and I concur that our visit with Valley Hostel in Lauterbrunnen in May was absolutely PERFECT! The rooms and bathrooms were very clean, which is priority #1, and the cost was extremely reasonable. The views surrounding the hostel are surreal — intimidating cliffs, dream-like waterfalls, and a snow-covered towering mountain in the distance. It served as a perfect place to just rest, and as a base from which to explore. We hope to go back soon.

I stayed here few years ago. Great place. The room was clean and comfortable. Martha is most helpful. I really enjoyed her cheese fondue. I look forward to going back again. Excellent place to start off my journey, and the Swiss scenery simply took my heart.
