The Hostelz.com Review
The North South Backpackers is a very nice and clean hostel only a ten minute walk away from Hatfield's square and plaza and their shops, restaurant, and clubs. It's a beautiful walk under Pretoria's famous jacaranda trees. By bus in less than 20 minutes you can reach Church Square and the city centre of Pretoria.

The staff are very friendly and the swimming pool is cleaned every day. There's a homely feeling about the whole place, from the fireplace lit in winter and rainy days, to the common kitchen. There are small dorms (4-6 beds) and private rooms, and they all come with keys. They have internet access till 6pm (18:00) and a small in-house bar.

It is a quiet hostel, not the party kind of place, but a great location to chill out after you come back from a safari tour or any of the clubs in Hatfield.

I had an email message stating that I was welcome. when the bus was delayed I phoned to ask whether I could come late which was no problem but when I came the gate was closed and no staff around. Eventually a backbacker tried to open the gate. Being out in the dark in the middle of the night with the promise of a bed and finding the gate closed was a terrible experience. I think that in a hostel a member of staff should be around all the time. (Any backpacker who opened the gate could have let anyone in).

I've been here three times in three years and it is always a home away from home.
