It is a remote, peaceful, small family hostel nestling at the edge of the Sperrin mountains , here you can breathe fresh air and wander green valleys, buzzards soar overhead, there is fantastic cycling on deserted roads.

Relax and rekindle your creative spirit in a tranquil environment of breath taking views and panoramic rolling country side. Perfect for the artist, the photographer, the writer and other creative folk. Allow the landscape to inspire your creativity.

Omagh hostel is just the place for the Idyllic retreat, for romantic explorers, for simply lazing, ideal for bird watchers(watch the blue tits feed less than 1 meter from your breakfast table), amazing for cycling, perfect for rejuvenating your soul. Whilst offering simple ,comfortable great value accommodation that is secluded, tranquil and quiet without being isolated (we are just under 3miles from the centre of Omagh)

Interested in Megalithic history? Archaeological sites proliferate in the area from lonely mountain sites e.g. Beaghmore stone circle, to romantic island sites e.g. Devenish island (sites of enormous European importance)

he rolling Tyrone countryside is ideal for cycling with quiet lanes and picturesque villages.

Mountain biking available at Gortin Glen Forest Park with allocated tracks for all levels.

Themed Cycling Routes - A series of archaeologically-based trials are available locally with many court tombs, standing stones to be seen.

Sustrans Cycle Route is now established in Omagh. Route 92 passes through Omagh and along this route you can visit three major attractions, The Ulster American Folk Park and the Gortin Glens Forest Park.

OrienteeringWalking

Mountains and Moor lands, ancient archaeological sites, buzzards and peregrines... Do your own thing or hire a qualified mountain guide.

Make a pilgrimage to the top of Mullaghcarn and walk in the footsteps of the Cairn Sunday Walkers.

Walk the Bessie Bell route and hear the sad tale about this mountain.

Carrigans Walk and The Gortin Burren are use a few of the many available in the area and are easily accessible from the hostel.

Angling

The Foyle is one of the richest fishing rivers in Europe and one of the best salmon waters in the world. Rods and licences are all available locally.

Sperrin Mountains co DerryOrienteering

There is a permanent orienteering course at the hostel itself, one within two miles at the Omagh Leisure Centre and another one up at Gortin Glens Forest Park. Billy and Marella are both keen orienteers and have much local knowledge which they are more than willing to share with visitors, Marella is a level three coach.

Sperrin Crafts

The Sperrins Region is steeped in local culture and has influenced many locals in embracing the traditional crafts – embroidery, stonemasonry, pottery and much more. There are numerous places to purchase local arts and crafts in the Sperrins. There are also group demonstrations and work shops. Just as Marella and Billy and they will give you all the information you need.

Bluegrass MusicFestivals, Events and Entertainment

A range of spectacular annual events take place such as the Easter extravaganza at Springhill House (April), The Golden Sperrins Walking Weekend (June), The Highland Games in Newtownstewart (July), Sperrins Hill Walking Festival (August).

The Appalachian Bluegrass Music Festival (September) and the Sperrins Autumn Story-Telling Festival (November).

Trace your Ancestors

The Ulster American Folk Park and Omagh Library have a database with information about many of the emigrants who left these shores in the last century.

Spend time around the Hostel

Spend time chilling out here, help to feed our pigs, try some of the delicious vegetables and fruit grown in the garden , plant a tree and offset your personal travelling carbon footprint.

Billy and Marella have calculated that the hostel produces approximately 16 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year and therefore have committed to planting 22 trees a year to offset the hostel carbon emissions. Be a responsible traveller, join in and either make a donation to the fund in the hostel, or actively get involved in the tree planting programme.
