Not overly convenient, but beautifully situated near campgrounds and bordering the Black Forest makes the DJH Hostel a wonderful launching point for hiking the expansive wilderness. English is almost spoken so it would be good behaviour to ask "sprechen sie englisch?" (do you speak English?). This HI is like most, being rather hard to meet people although the place is lavishly adorned. Many visitors come by car and are families. A small playground is set outside, though the kids still can't bring life to this hostel.

Worth to stay much more longer
I love this hostel. Well it is a little bit far away from the city center but very clean and with modern rooms. The breakfast buffet is like the buffet in a hotel and the reception staff are very friendly with a lot of information about Freiburg and the black-forest.

Great hostel
Large room, spotlessly clean, wonderful breakfast, and a charming (if not central) location. This is truly a great hostel! We're always looking for the ideal place to stay with our two-year-old and this place just about fitted the bill perfectly. Definitely recommended, although I would imagine that other people's comments about being full of school kids would certainly be true (we perhaps were lucky to visit on a quiet weekend).

Great location, great facilities but too many school classes
I stayed there for nine days and I had to move twice. The kids were really noisy -- and I am not very sensible if there is noise. The teachers were nowhere to be seen because they get always the nice, single rooms away from noise and pupils. And are paying less then normal people. I have the feeling they book too many kids and have hardly any places for individual travelers. I met just one other traveler. All other roommates went to work during the week or went to a workshop in Freiburg. It is not really the place for travelers was my opinion. Everything else was excellent.

This place has a big breakfast buffet, and it's very clean and beautifully located. The staff has a lot of information about Freiburg and the Black Forest.

Really clean and warm welcoming hostel! Well worth a visit to stay a few nights.
