Located in Bar Harbor, the heart of the Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island Bar Harbor Hostel is a perfect place to start a trip trough the Parc. All bus shuttles start form Bar Harbor and it is easy to get there by car as well as by Greyhound bus or ship.
The hostel is a small, cosy hostel. It has a ten-bed male and a ten-bed female dorm and a four-bed private dorm, which you have to book entirely. The dorms are quiet and equipped with air condition. The beds seem to be new and are more than comfortable. The sheets are clean and new, too. The bathrooms are big and clean, with one towel a week provided.
Although there are twenty-four beds, the atmosphere in the hostel is still very homelike and friendly. The staff, Nova, is extremly cooperatively and provides tons of information, you need to find the most beautiful places of Mount Desert Island. The hostel has a normal TV and also provides wireless internet access. The laundry and the dryer can be used for one dollar each and even the kitchen is for guests' convenience.
However, there are some rules which might seem absurd to some people. Neither shoes nor alcohol or smoking are allowed in the entire house. The hostel has lockout-hours, which means it's closed from ten a.m. to five p.m. and you can't get in there. It's also entirely closed after midnight (the front door will be unlocked again at eight a.m., so you can get in again).
Even if these rules seem to be rigorous, we strongly recommend this hostel for every stay at Acadia National Park.
