Lots of character, clean, good location This hostel is in an old building, which has heaps of character. It had the character of a small hostel despite having three floors with two corridors per floor. The room I was in had three single beds rather than bunks, and they provided towels as well. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The common room was a bit small, especially when everyone tried to get breakfast at the same time, and there were no lockers in the room. The best bit though was this place had character and soul, not like the bland modern "Eurohostels" popping up everywhere.

Considering the building is from the eighteenth century, Hostel Mekka was a great adventure for both myself and my husband. We now laugh and remember the way we struggled with suitcases up to the third floor, and also of running into the shower room quickly before it could be used by someone else! Reception staff were very friendly and marked interesting places onto our map. It was the best sleep we had while in Finland! Best priced hostel in the city precinct.

My wife and I have always loved our stay at the Mekka. We think that the owner has done a great job at keeping a peace of history alive. It would be a shame to change it. I think that it is good to have a real place of history to enjoy. We love the staff and look forward to staying there every time we come. If I wanted to stay in a place of the future I could have, but we chose Mekka. Thanks Mekka.

Hostel Mekka is definitely perfectly located right in the center of Helsinki and just around the corner of the train and bus station. Staff are also very friendly, but the rooms and the house are in a bad condition. My room was very simple, very cold, smelled horrible (smokers rooms only!) and there are only 2 bathrooms (including toilet) per floor, which is not enough. Bathrooms are also in a very bad condition. I wouldn't mind having a simple and not very well equipped hostel if it's cheap, but I paid for a single room 47,00 Euro/night which is just exorbitant for what was offered! Either the owner should start and redecorate the whole hostel or they should reduce the prices.
