91 Loop is a modern, more European-style hostel; it's clean, functional, and very comfortable, but without the extras that come as standard in South African hostels. It gets its name from Loop Street, which runs parallel to Long Street, where the bustling nightlife is, so you can be just a short hop away, but with the peace and quiet of a restful night afterwards.
The Location
Loop Street is just over ten minutes' walk from the bus and railway station and just one minute from Long Street. 91 Loop is very central, but Loop Street is a lot quieter and calmer than Long Street.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Guests will find quite a choice here. All rooms are en suite and include private twins and doubles as well as family rooms, four- to eight-bed dorms with a "pod experience," and a room consisting of twenty pods. The eight-bed dorm is for females only. All dorm and pod beds come with their own power points and bedside light and all the pods have their own curtain for privacy; all the mattresses are thick and very comfortable. The bedding is clean and crisp and all the rooms are almost spotless. The dorm beds have large, clanking cages under the bottom bed for storage, and these are secured with the same key card that unlocks your room.
The bathrooms are spacious and clean and hot water is available twenty-four hours. Towels are provided.
Common Spaces
91 Loop does not offer its guests a self-catering kitchen, but rather encourages them to use The Honey Badger bar and restaurant downstairs, which is part of the same setup. The bar has a big-screen TV and pool table and table football, and it's also open to the public. There is also a sports-and-travel-goods shop on site and a tour and travel agent. Leading off the reception area, there is a pleasant outside sitting area, mostly for smokers. On the stairway landings, there are a couple of easy chairs, but nowhere else to relax and socialize. The free Wi-Fi is excellent, with a very fast connection that is strong throughout the building. A huge, cold buffet breakfast is included in the bed price -- you could fill up for the whole day.
Summary
91 Loop is another of a rather generic and antiseptic generation of large, clean, functional hostels that don't offer guests self-catering or the benefit of a lounge or other common space. This is a business above all else and guests are encouraged to use the facilities, for which you must pay. For what it is, 91 Loop is one of the best, but we find that it lacks intimacy. If guests have just arrived from Europe, this is a good first stop because the standards are high and this is very much a European-style hostel.

A boutique hostel nestled in the heart of central Cape Town, conveniently located right between popular backpacker hangout Long Street and hip and trendy Bree Street. We have transformed a run down building into something that is now chic and happening with rooms ranging from privates to dorms and our very own unique pod experience. We have a 24 hour front desk, concierge, tour desk and great free (fiber!) wifi throughout the building. On the first floor you will find The Honey Badger Bar & Restaurant as well as On Longmarket Café & Deli serving deluxe coffee and sandwiches. Guests at 91 Loop get a discount on food at both. There is also a courtyard offering plenty of outside seating.
As our guest your breakfast is included every day, and if you read our reviews you will quickly see that this is not your standard two slices of white bread with jam spread. We also sell our breakfast to walk-ins for R50 if you want to have an idea of what you'll be saving by staying with us :) Towels, linen and all taxes are included in our rates. A free welcome drink is standard operating procedure at our place.
We are also surrounded by a plethora of shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. If you are keen to see more than what's within walking distance Cape Town's excellent public MyCiti bus system stops right on our doorstep and connects you with all the best beaches and sights around. And if that's not far enough for you, our very own tour desk is happy to help you explore further away destinations.
We organize many events and activities for our guests, including free walking tours around Cape Town, braais, movie nights, beer pong championships and so on.

• BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
• Take the My CitI bus A101 departing to "Civic Centre" then take Bus 101 "Vredehoek Gardens" and climb out at the stop "Longmarket". Make sure you have the FNB bank on the left hand side and then walk up one block to Loop Street. Cost is approximately R80. You can use this link to calculate the exact fare.
• BY CAR
• If you are driving from the airport: Take Airport Approach Road to Settlers Way (4km). Follow signs for the N2 where you will merge onto Settler Way/N2 and keep right to continue onto De Waal Drive/N2. Take De Waal Drive exit (11.6km) towards M3/Cape Town. Continue on De Waal Drive (3.1km), slight left onto Jutland Avenue (250m) continue onto Mill Street (750m). Slight right onto Annandale Street (200m), continue onto Orange Street (750m) and turn right onto Loop Street where you will find us on the right about 700m away.

• BY SHUTTLE
• Contact us and we'll sort out a shuttle bus to pick you up. The cost for this is as follows:

• There are regular taxis as the airport. The cost is typically around R300 (depending on time of day), but be aware that a lot of these will not accept payment by card. Uber is also a popular means of transport in Cape Town. An Uber from the airport costs somewhere between R150 and R300 depending on the time of day.
