Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
Double Booking, No Refund, No Apology I was visiting the Brecons in summer 2010 with friends. We had booked the Held hostel 1 year before, and confirmed our booking with payment 6 months out and checked 2 weeks to go that all was okay. We arrived to find a stag party unloading their beers. The owners had gone away for the weekend and were uncontactable. After coping somehow that weekend with scrambling for last minute accommodation elsewhere for 25 people, we contacted the Held Bunkhouse owners the following week after they'd returned from their weekend away. They offered no apology and contrived to blame us for getting our dates wrong. We showed them our booking emails for the dates in question and payment details. We had actually also seen their booking diary in situ which showed that we were actually booked in with them for the correct dates. They had clearly messed up but were not admitting this. We asked for a refund. They have not given one a year later and have ignored all subsequent communications. They have kept £750 that they are not entitled to. We later discovered that this bunkhouse has a poor reputation for reliability with others taking groups into the outdoors. Don't touch this place with a barge pole. Or you might be feeling very sorry and very poor. — John Palmer , UK (2011-10-04)

I have been visiting this bunkhouse for the past 14 years, during which it has seen two owners. The current owners are a very friendly, approachable couple and I would have no hesitation in recommending this bunkhouse. An excellent find! — Patrick Allen (2005-01-11)
