Location
Since the village of Capel Curig is not very large, the HI - YHA Capel Curig Hostel is rather easy to find. From Betwys-y-Coed, take the A5 to Capel Curig. The hostel will be on the right well before you get to the center of town. The main attractions here are the mountains. The brilliant castles of Edward I are all down on the coast, but who needs them? Mount Snowdon (pictured) awaits! After all, this is where Sir Edmund Hillary chose to prepare for his ascent to the top of Mount Everest.
Common Spaces
It's a truism amongst hostelers that the single biggest factor in making a pleasant hosteling experience is the host. And Capel Curig scores high in this category with their friendly and accommodating staff. For the most part the hostel has very good facilities, although you may notice a few minor faults like wobbly furniture, mildew on the shower floors, and a few doors that show signs of wear and tear. Breakfast is included in your night's stay, and if you're departing early, the staff will most likely get it ready for you the night before. It can be stored in the self-service kitchen because that one is accessible twenty-four/seven. The best feature of the hostel is its drying room. Snowdonia is the wettest part of Wales, so its always a nice feeling knowing your clothes and shoes will be ready to go after getting soaked in the rain!
As a gateway to the heart of Snowdonia, this hostel attracts a mix of outdoors enthusiasts. Walkers, cyclists or auto tourists, young or old, they're all here and most enjoy trading stories about where they've been and where they're going. You may pick up some useful tips.
Summary
For the adventurer who wants to take in (or take on) the rugged beauty and sometimes challenging weather of Snowdonia, the YHA Capel Curig makes a wonderful budget accommodation to get it done! Rates for the YHA Capel Curig are very reasonable, which is consistent with the countryside hostels in Britain. No complaints here.
