The Hostelz.com Review
Totters is a wonderful little hostel in an amazing town.
The Location
Totters is in an unassuming building near the city walls in Caernarfon. It is not particularly well signposted apart from a small sign in the front window but it is not particularly difficult to find - being on the main street within the city walls. There are a wealth of pubs and shops in the immediate area and the castle is literally around the corner. It is only a 5 minute walk to the bus station which has buses throughout Snowdonia and also to Bangor rail station.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are kept immaculately clean and have a mix of bunk and normal beds. There are lockers and security appears not to be a problem. The showers are clean and reliable with plenty of hot water.
Common Spaces
There are several commons spaces in this multistorey building. There is a TV room on the ground floor. Downstairs there is an atmospheric dining room with long wooden table. Nearby is a breakfast bar with a wide range of jams to go with toast for breakfast. There is also a large kitchen room with fridge, washing machines and sitting space.
Due to its central location Totters appeals to a wide range of people with a mix of British and foreign tourists staying there. There are plenty of decent pubs nearby so hostellers tend to eat and drink away from the hostel.
Summary
Totters is a friendly hostel and well maintained. It is easy to find and in a location close to all the major parts of Caernarfon. It is definitely one place hostellers are happy to return to.

Attention to detail I stayed here in May 2007. This was one of the best experiences ever, and I have had quite a few. Totters is probably the best hostel I have ever stayed in.
I went here because of the high ratings this establishment has received, and my expectations were fully met. One of the things that makes Totters so great is attention to detail. Everything is clean, simple, and of good quality. In this hostel you will not find a lot of advanced extras. There is no washing machine or wireless internet connection. What you will find is a good nights sleep. There are comfortable mattresses, nice new duvets, and pillows. And none of those annoying sheet bags. They just wash the covers in between uses. Simple! Is is hard to describe all the little details that adds to this experience. You would have to see it for yourself. It is things like the colour on the walls, the shower curtains, and real plants on the tables in your room. Caernarfon is a great base for exploring the area. In a few days I covered the Snowdonia area, LLandudny, Conwy, the Llyn peninsula, and the Isle of Anglesey. At Totters you have one of the gates of the ancient walls and wonderful sunsets in the harbour right on your doorstep. Have a great stay! — Connie , Denmark (2008-02-17)

This really is a great hostel, and it has a fantastic homey feel. The lounge room and dining room feel just like you're staying in someone's house, and are well furnished. The rooms are good with a mix of bunk and single beds. The whole place is clean, including the bathrooms. — Bazz (2006-09-22)

Absolutely fantastic. I have rarely seen staff working so hard and so thoroughly whilst still being so friendly and helpful, and even making time for a chat. It reflected the atmosphere and appearance of the hostel. Besides that, the hostel fulfilled my expectations in every way. If you decide to go here, then please enable the staff to maintain this high rating! — Daphne (2004-08-21)

One of the best hostels where I have been. Staff were very friendly, lovely atmosphere. Good location. The castle is just beside. — Anonymous (2004-03-23)

We stayed at this hostel for one night, and had a nice time! The guy running it was very friendly and helpful; he gave us some tips on local places to see. It is located right next to the castle, but a good walk from the bus station, and not many of the locals seem to know where it's at, so make sure you know how to get to it before you arrive. Our room was nice, with clean linens, even if the bed was uncomfortable. Towels aren't provided, so bring your own! The hostel was quiet too; we didn't socialize with any of the people in the common room, but they were all very quiet. Overall, an excellent stay!!! — Amanda & Sofie (2004-02-26)
