In terms of its facilities and the politeness of the staff, Hostel Postel is pretty much perfect. And with its own outside courtyard area, it almost feels too good to be a hostel. That being said, in some ways that creates a fairly formal vibe to the place, and in that sense, the atmosphere is more like that of a hotel than a hostel.
Český Krumlov is a very close-knit place so you’ll find nowhere is particularly far away. Hostel Postel itself is about five minutes from the market square, just a couple of minutes from one of the few mini-markets in town, and about twenty minutes from the main bus station by foot. Also, being located on the south side of the river, it’s a little set back from the main humdrum of the tourist centre in a nice little spot that you may not otherwise have checked out. And finally, it’s right in front of an awesome viewpoint that rarely gets busy as very few people know about it!
Rooms and Bathrooms
First impressions of the bedrooms are that they’re awfully cramped, with the beds packed in pretty close to one another. However, once you get into bed, privacy somehow doesn’t feel like such an issue. It could be the super soft mattresses or the large duvets in which you can actually wrap yourself. Either way, somehow the beds still feel fairly private and less exposed than some hostels tend to. Still, plug space is something of an issue, meaning you may have to rely on charging in the common areas at times, and the Wi-Fi signal is poor.
The bathrooms, though, are very nice. They’re located across the other side of the common area, which some may see as a bit of a nuisance, but that’s being awfully picky. Facility-wise, they’re very clean and allow for plenty of privacy.
Generally speaking, there’s a good amount of communal space within the hostel. There’s a well-equipped, open-plan kitchen with a kettle, microwave, and hobs, as well as a decent-sized table surrounded by homey décor to make the place feel very warm and welcoming. Much like the rooms, plug space can be hard to come by, but there are sockets available if you’re willing to hunt for them. And finally, there’s loads of space to hang out in the outside courtyard area, which is potentially the most appealing part of the entire hostel.
With its décor, the facilities, and the beautiful setting, Hostel Postel is just about guaranteed to provide an enjoyable experience. It’s ideal if you’re after a picturesque and comfortable place to stay in Český Krumlov, but if you’re looking for a more rough-and-ready backpackers experience, then it may not necessarily be for you.

Hands down the best place I have stayed ever. Felt like my home.

Great Place to stay in Cesky Krumlov
Probably the best accommodations I have had in a hostel so far. The beds are extremely comfortable, the showers are hot, and everything feels clean. Kitchen facilities are extremely well maintained and a computer is available for use or even borrowing for the entire night! I stayed in a dormitory and everyone was respectful and very nice. This hostel attracts a slightly older crowd, but this is not a bad thing. Just a heads up for anyone who wants a more social scene may look elsewhere.
It would be a 5-stars hostel if there was hot water for shower ...
Everything was good. Its a good 10 minute walk from Old Town Square (the town isnt even that big). Really nicely decorated kitchen. I was in a 4-bed room but no other guests were there that night so we basically have the whole building to ourselves. The only downside is there is no hot water for shower for some reason.
Hostel Postel is located on an alleyway just off one of the main bridges in the Old Town Square. When you walk through the gate at Hostel Postel you are greeted with a courtyard that makes you feel immediately at home. The reception desk isn't manned at all hours so be sure to let them know when you are going to arrive and leave (if you leave your bags with them at check-out).
It's a short, five-minute walk across the bridge and you are back into the old town center where you can shop, eat, and admire the beautiful town. There is a very state-of-the-art tourist office where you can store your bags as well as a discount grocery store within ten minutes of the hostel. When you check in, be sure to flip through their information book, available in several languages, before you head out. The book gives you several new ideas on things to see and places to go. The staff are also very friendly and helpful when you are trying to maximize your stay.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Hostel Postel offers several room styles, including dorm rooms, and they are broken down into two separate cottages. Each cottage has one community shower room (there are curtains in front of the shower but no dressing space), and there is rarely a wait for either. The larger cottage has a separate girls and boys room and the small shares one large bathroom. The beds have good mattresses, giving you a much needed good nights rest, linens provided.
Their key system allows you to come and go as you please with access to the kitchen and courtyard at any time. They have a computer available in the reception area but don't count on using it at your convenience since the office is not staffed around the clock. The kitchen offers a stove, microwave, fridge, and cooking utensils.
Hostel Postel is a must-stay during your trip to esk Krumlov. They've won several awards from other hostel websites and for a good reason -- the hostel loses none of the small-town, Czech feel that greets you when you walk into town.
For me this is still the best hostel I ever been to. Nice, clean, quiet...it's a dream.
Although they confirmed our reservation via e-mail, when we showed up they had in fact given away our room. We not only told them that we might be late, but we called when we knew that we would be late, and by then they had already cancelled our reservation. They proceeded to book us across the street in someone's attic. While they offered to send a cab to pick us up from the train station and pay for it, there was no cab, and so we had to pay for it ourselves. When we went to discuss this with the owner/manager she indeed gave us most of our deposit back and paid for the cab. This was furthermore a frustrating experience because calls cannot be made from Austria to the Czech Republic. The patio seems nice, and the halls and bathrooms are clean, though small.
Five stars for the rooms, the atmosphere, and of course for Gabi, the ever smiling hostess!
This is a great hostel--very quiet and clean. Great shower facilities and clean bathrooms--always good when on the road. Location is good, and we had no problems arranging lodging here when we were in Cesky Krumlov on several occassions. Encountered diverse groups of people here who were very cool. The price here is very fair.
