Fes is a great city. Traditional Moroccan goods, pottery, and leather in particular are great there.
I visited Marrakech and it was a great place to visit. Well recommended. Try the tajin -- it's lovely, and prepare to haggle! All I can say is that Marrakech is worth a look.
I was in Morocco in September 2006 and I can say it's one of my favourite places on the Earth. I have visited Marrakech and liked it soooooooo much. I am going to visit it again very soon. People are friendly, everything's just perfect.
Essaouira is gorgeous, the beach is huge, and there are plenty of tourists (if you want there to be) to feel safe. It's a really nice break from the hassle of Morocco but there are no fewer shops or market stalls. Restaurants are a little pricey but only because I was on a 10£ a day budget! Haggle for the rooms when you get there because no one ever does and they overprice them a bit!.
When I got off the ferry, a kind gentleman greeted me and asked if I wanted a tour and said he was from the office of travel. I said, "cool!" And cool it was. He took me all over the city on a walking tour. He knew every single thing about that beautiful city. I loved Tangier and the olive oil and the lunches -- and the party on the beach until 5 a.m. I would recommend Tangier to travelers.
