Mombasa has great beaches.
I had a few meetings in Nairobi recently, when they ended I decided to spend the spare time touring a bit of the country famous for its wildlife. I contacted Explorer Kenya Tours and Travel and they did a superb job. I got to tour the Maasai Mara and I have to admit I'll be back!
I have just visited Nairobi for the first time and stayed in the city for one night and left for Mukuyuni Village, which is towards the east. I went to this small village of the Kamba people -- it is very beautiful and everyone was friendly and hospitable. I loved my stay there for one week. Kenya will remain now my favorite country after such a good time in Mukuyuni.
There was always a rumour that Nairobi is a very unsafe place. I've just come from there and things have really changed. There is always a policeman in your sight when you are in town. I was residing in YMCA hostels just five minutes drive from the CBD where you can comfortably walk to town. The staff gives you the safety tips before you request them. The city is now greener and the parks more amazing. If you are in a hurry, Nairobi National Park is only fifteen minutes drive west of the city and there is a recreational park Aboretoum next to state near the YMCA hostel where you can taste a forest inside a city. Kenya is exotic, you will always go back when you taste it.
Mombasa is so much fun! The animals are amazing!
Wasini Island is the most relaxed placed we found during our 3-week tour through Tanzania and Kenya. No beach boys, no flycatchers, just kind people and no hassle! We were actually the only overnight guests on the island and that made this place so authentic. I don't write more, because I want to find it the same way when I come back next year! Cheers, Bea
