Avis de Hostelz.com
What Globetrotter Hostel Montreal lacks in cleanliness and organisation it makes up for in location, price, and helpful, experienced staff. This place is good for short-term stays, even when you plan to cook for yourself.

The Location

Globetrotter Hostel is in a prime location. Right on the thriving Avenue du Mont Royal in the Plateau area, it is close to numerous late night eateries, unique and trendy shops, and a central metro station. Notable Montreal establishments including the St. Viateur Bagel Shop and Patati Patata Cafe are also within easy walking distance, as are the unmissable St. Denis and St. Laurent Street shopping districts. Locationwise, Globetrotters is great.

Rooms and bathrooms

Although guests are made to swap their snow-laden winter boots for slippers upon entry, the hostel is a bit unclean in general. The main bathroom (one of two) seems to get the most attention, however the dorm rooms and common areas require a bit more effort. This can make unwinding after a huge day of exploring this beautiful city a bit more awkward (keeping your clothes from touching the floor). The beds are average wooden bunks. If you can afford it, we're sure a private room would be a better option, although we stayed in the dorms.

Common spaces

The common spaces include the kitchenette, dining room, and living room. Though the kitchen is quite dirty, it does have a stove, fridge, and sufficient pantry space. Although it is just one stove servicing approximately eighteen people, the crowd that comes to Globetrotters isn't in the mood for cooking. The hostel benefits from the close proximity to the bars of Rue Mont Royal. From our experience, this is a social hostel, with many travelers joining together and cruising the Plateau. It is a very friendly environment.

The staff, when available, are very considerate, knowledgeable, and eager to help interested travelers with maps and answers. However, arrive after 9 p.m., and there is a bit of arranging to do. The reception is only open between 9 to 11 a.m. and 5 and 9 p.m., which can be very difficult for some travelers who have uncertain schedules.

Funky hostel in a great neighbourhood
Globetrotter is a small eclectic place in one of the best neighbourhoods in Montreal. Avenue du Mont-Royal in Le Plateau is full of energy, interesting people, and countless bars and restaurants. The hostel is around ten blocks from the Metro and a grocery store lies in between. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The kitchen is decent. The upstairs bathroom often had a lineup but was clean and the shower was excellent. The only minor mishap was the doorknob kept falling off our room door, but the staff was accommodating, and hopefully it's all fixed up now. Great balcony views from a few rooms. A great place, and a must stay!

I have visited this hostel and I absolutely loved it for many reasons. The place is cozy and you really feel like you're at home. There is a lounge area where people can get to know each other, a kitchen where you can make your own food, and clean toilets and showers. The best thing about this hostel is that it's not too big and that gives the guests a chance to get to know each other better. I absolutely recommend it.
