Cardiff is a great place to sample a lot of what Wales has to offer, and there are more hostels in Cardiff than anywhere else in Wales. From Cardiff Castle in the heart of the city to Cardiff Bay, you can see everything the city has to offer on foot or just a short bus trip away from your hostel. Cardiff is also a handy place to base yourself for day trips to Brecon Beacons or Pembrokeshire National Parks, as well as St. Fagans Open Air Museum, which is not to be missed. You can also take a walk or a bike ride along the Taff Trail to see some gorgeous Welsh castles set in typical Welsh villages.

The biggest city in Wales also has all the shopping you could want from High Street shops to Welshspoons and there is the Cardiff Market where you can buy all your Welsh delights. Cardiff is a very happening city with many festivals happening over winter and summer; you can also see the patriotism come out every time there is a football or rugby match on at the Iconic Millennium Stadium. Cardiff also has many great venues for live traditional music and some great pubs with traditional Welsh fare. Don't miss the Welsh cakes from Mermaid Quay at Cardiff Bay.

Many Cardiff hostels are located just around the corner from the main bus and train station along the Taff River, with views straight across to the Millenium Stadium. If you want to go somewhere a bit quieter, there are other accommodation options in the neighbouring suburb of Roath.
