Paintshop Hostel in Figueira da Foz … I have travelled the world and stayed in heaps of hostels, and this is by far the best. The hosts Ben and Kerry are amazing and nothing is too much trouble. The bedrooms and bathrooms are cleaner than mine at home! The town itself has plenty of late bars and fine places to eat. Fig de Foz also has the best beach i have seen in Europe!
Grande Hostel de Coimbra in Coimbra … Just four months after these guys opened, it's already a really sweet place. The facilities range from excellent (kitchen, common room, potentially usable space outside) to ok (internet is a shared computer till now). I am sure that this place will develop very nicely. The staff was excellent, nice, friendly, helpful, young. Had good ten days there, definitely recommendable!
Paintshop Hostel in Figueira da Foz … Excellent hostel -- the best I have ever stayed in! The beds are so comfy and the showers are better than at home! Ben and Kerry are so friendly and make you feel really welcome -- definitely did not want to leave.
HI - Coimbra Hostel in Coimbra … Coimbra's HI Hostel is situated just above the Parque de Santa Cruz, about a twenty-minute (uphill) walk from the main shopping street and ten minutes from the famous Coimbra university. Although the beds were not the most comfortable I've ever slept in (and a little short for a tall Dutch woman like me), the friendly and helpful staff makes well up for that. Female and male dorms are on separate floors; bathrooms were clean with four showers and two toilets per floor. Kitchen facilities were ok (they have clearly increased the number of forks and pots since the last reviewer visited), but the common rooms are located in the basement -- not the most cosy place. However, as a university town, Coimbra has enough bars and restaurants where you could spend your evening. Just remember that the uphill walk back to the hostel seems to take much longer after a few drinks. Catch bus #29 from the Coimbra A station to get here (every fifteen minutes, ask the driver where to get off), or catch a…
HI - Coimbra Hostel in Coimbra … Unfortunately, like most hostels in Portugal, this was a long way from the city and on an erratic bus route. I wasn't in great spirits as my week's trip in Portugal had been marred by constant rain (February on the Atlantic coast, I should've expected it), and the hostel was pretty empty apart from a few students who hadn't got a permanent place to live -- hence I at least had a night of amusement drinking port and swapping Ali G quotes with a couple of Bulgarians. As far as a place to sleep and shower, it was fine, but I had to complain about the kitchen which was more understocked than a Siberian supermarket. Being a vegetarian in Portugal means self-catering as they have a habit to contaminate all foods with chopped ham. Even the vegetarian food. And their cakes are made with lard which is just wrong. Cooking and eating a meal is not easy when the only kitchenware available is one pan and one plate. Seriously, there was not even a knife and fork there, I had to slurp off the…
Paintshop Hostel in Figueira da Foz … Didn't like this place due to the rude and lazy two staff (Gemma, and another girl) who were on facebook and watching TV all the time. They weren't helpful apart from when we asked about surf lessons or renting things, and at checkin. One didn't even bother say adios when we leave, just stayed on facebook. The two showers and around the sinks is dirty, i guess from only being cleaned once in the morning. "Free breakfast" is a con as only instant coffee, white bread, and cornflake are available. If you buy your own food, don't bother to keep it in the kitchen because they lock it in the evening to morning so you can't use if at the times you want anyway. Also, no safety because the doors don't lock. The downstairs looks nice, but the actual management and upstairs are really bad.
Paintshop Hostel in Figueira da Foz … Paintshop Hostel is a perfect place to stay. Warm and friendly atmosphere, excellent location, and clean and tidy rooms are guaranteed in this place. The Location The hostel is situated in a perfect location. It's in five minutes' walk to the city center, beaches, and train station. There is…
