HI - Njardvik - Fit Hostel in NjarovĂk Stayed here in August '06 but was only there for like nine hours, arrived late and left early. But would have liked to stay longer especially cause the girl in the reception with the Liverpool-jersey was so damn pretty. Now I didn't even have a decent chance to get to know her. As with all the FIT-hostels I've stayed in, the hostel was perfectly alright, good value, and friendly staff.
HI - Njardvik - Fit Hostel in NjarovĂk I stayed in Fit Hostel in March of 2005. It was all right considering I got there at 2 a.m. (due to flight delays) and I was scared. I had never been to a country that didn't speak the same language as me so I was not prepared for that after a long flight. The people at the desk were friendly, which is more than I can say for the locals. My room was clean but very hot (I couldn't figure out the heating system) so I slept with my window open. The bathrooms left much to be desired — very dirty but in working order. The hostel was undergoing renovations, so hopefully that will help. It had free Internet access that was cool. The residents there were pretty friendly. It had satellite TV but due to the weather it didn't work. The kitchens were dirty (dirty dishes piled in the sink and rotting food in the fridge, probably from the residents) but the social lounge was clean and very nice. It was close to the airport, so that's why I stayed there. I would go back if I were ever passing
HI - Njardvik - Fit Hostel in NjarovĂk I stayed in this hostel in June 2005. The staff are friendly and helpful but the building is still being renovated so this meant you couldn't use the hotpot in the balcony (not that you wanted to anyway, the weather being what it was). This hostel might have the worst views in the world, as the windows look down on some derelict industrial shipyard landscape — and this, in a country renowned for its natural beauty! This hostel is also where they keep the illegal migrants they catch trying to make it to the USA without papers, but this can include some good-looking Chinese girls, so it's all right. However, it is not a bad hostel at all, there are several kitchens so this is a welcome respite as elsewhere in Iceland hostels have just ONE kitchen, which gets very over-used. Also the common room-lounge is very nice, comfy and welcoming. It's in a extremely convenient location for the airport and excellent food shopping in Njardvik itself.
Guesthouse Alex in Keflavik The staff at Motel Alex was really helpful. It is a quiet area within driving distance of Reykjavik and many other places. Alex has a really nice geothermal hot tub — so relaxing! The beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked so you can make your own meals. Iceland is absolutely amazing — one of the most remarkable places on Earth! You absolutely must go!
Guesthouse Alex in Keflavik Motel Alex is in walking distance from the airport (KEF). It is a roadside motel: clean and practical and practically empty in the winter. I was only here for six and a half hours.
Someone from the motel picked me up. I was the only one staying at the motel on the flight that arrived at 11:30 p.m., but the man waited for me and drove me in a minibus back to the motel. My room was on the ground floor. I did have to walk through the kitchen in order to get to the bathroom, which could have been tiresome, if I had stayed longer. As it was, I was the only guest I saw, so it was like having my own cottage. I could saunter around without offending any early breakfast eater's sensibilities, and raid the fridge before I went to bed.
I had booked a single bed, but got an adequately uncramped twin room.
The kitchen again was clean. A basically-stocked fridge with fruit, milk, ham and cheese was ready for guests to help themselves from. The reception area has a TV which can show
