The Hostelz.com Review
Ciak Hostel is a vibrant, cinema-themed hostel located in an easy-to-reach, central location in the beautiful city of Rome. Although hidden inside of an ordinary building on an average-looking apartment block, Ciak Hostel is a clean, cozy, and friendly secret waiting to be found.
The Location
The hostel is located in a central location, about a fifteen-minute walk from Rome's central train station -- Termini. The actual hostel is in building number 55 on Viale Manzoni; however, you must be sure to go up to the second floor (not that in Italy, the ground floor is zero; therefore, the second floor is actually the third level).
To reach the hostel, you can either walk from Termini station or hop on the Metro Line A. Walking from Termini, simply exit the station by following the signs for Via Giolitti. Turn left as you exit and keep on Via Giolitti for about ten minutes. Turn right when you reach Viale Manzoni and walk down the street until you find building #55 (not 55E or 55D). If you choose to take the metro, be sure to get off at the Manzoni stop. Follow the signs for the Manzoni/San Quintino exit, then walk down Viale Manzoni until you reach #55 (about a six-minute walk).
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm rooms are very clean and well-kept. You can choose from standard or deluxe all-female or co-ed dorm rooms, as well as a private double room. Please note that the deluxe and private rooms are located in a separate building a few blocks away. Each room can be locked with your own personal key. Also, within each room is a shared or private bathroom. These bathrooms include showers, toilets, and a mirror ... they are simple, but clean.
Common Spaces
The common spaces consist of an area with a few computer stations in the main hallway, followed by another hallway with a few dining tables, and a well-equipped kitchen at the end of the hallway. The common spaces are located right in front of the dorm rooms, so late-night chattering might be an issue for those trying to get well rested. No need to worry too much though ... this hostel seems to maintain a tamed and quiet atmosphere for the most part. All the common spaces are tidy and well-kept by the hostel's owner. They also offer free pasta dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings for those who sign up in advance! This is a great way to get to know people.
Summary
Overall, Ciak Hostel is a great place to settle yourself while in Rome. It's outside of the touristy part of the city, but still in the heart -- a mere five-minute walk from the metro station. The owners are friendly and will show you that they care about their customers. It would be hard to go wrong with Ciak Hostel.

Satisfactory This is a small hostel which, however, offers everything needed for a short stay. It is very well-managed and organized. — Diana , USA (2009-03-06)
