We are conveniently located in the central area of Lusaka, only 15 min walk from both the bus and train station and the town centre banks, a 10 min walk from Northmead shopping centre and craft market and about a 30 min walk from most of the embassies
A taxi from town to Chachacha backpackers will cost around $2.00 u.s. If your are arriving to Lusaka using one of the usual forms of transport. Eg. Bus from Livingstone or Chipata, then all the taxi drivers will know where Chachacha is located.
If you were to just end up somewhere in Lusaka, then you would have to make sure that the taxi knows that we are off Bwinjimfumu Rd. and not on Cha Cha Cha rd.
Showers
At the moment we have four showers with hot and cold water. The showers are cleaned twice a day, so are kept clean.
Definately when we are real busy the water can run cold but if you wait about 20 min it will be hot again!! Often at night in Lusaka the council turns the water off (for some unknown reason) So if you get to the shower and there is no water just ask one of our staff and we will turn on the pump in our water reservoir and you can enjoy that hot shower that you have been dreaming about on the bus for the last 8 hours!!!!
The Bar
We have a very friendly bar run by our barman Nick. The bar is stocked with all the usual drinks as well as Zambia's "MOSI" Beer, mmm delicious. The bar closes at 11pm each night and midnight on Friday and Saturday so that early starters can get a good nights sleep. In the bar we also sell great snacks, so if you arrive late and your stomach is screaming at you, don't worry, you won't go to bed hungry.
Restaurant
We provide great value meals from 7.30 am through to about 8.00pm, the breakfast includes things like muesli, cornflakes, bacon and eggs, full breakfast and more. For dinner you could order anything from the breakfast and lunch menus or a delicious bar-b-que. If you happen to be a vegetarian, no problem, just ask the staff and they'll happily prepare you a delicious meal
Campers Kitchen
If your budget is a little tight or you just prefer your own cooking, then no problem, we have a campers kitchen for your use. It has a small oven, hotplate, a fridge freezer, pots and pans, plates, knives, forks, etc for your use. We do provide detergent and although our staff clean the campers kitchen every morning, we hope that you would clean up after yourself so that the kitchen is clean for others.
Its a good idea to remove your foodstuffs from the fridge before checking out, otherwise it will just sit there and go to waste.
Phone, Internet
We have a public card phone here at Chachacha Backpackers for your use. The phone cards can be bought at the bar for local and international calls. Be warned that phones calls in Zambia are very expensive, so you are more than welcome to give your friends our number (260-1-222257) and have them call you back.
Post
You are more than welcome to have your mail sent to us. We check our mail box about 3 times per week and any mail or messages will be pinned to the mail board on the front office wall. Our postal address is: PO Box 31300, Lusaka, Zambia
Airport Pick-up
At Chachacha we offer an airport pick-up. When booking with us just send your flight details and we'll be at the airport to meet you and bring you back to the Chachacha Backpackers. We charge for this service but it will make your arrival into Lusaka easy and hassle free.
Visas
Did you know that by pre-booking with us you are entitled to a visa waiver, if you are flying into Lusaka just send us all your passport details and flight details when booking and we'll arrange everything for you. When you arrive at immigration your passport will be stamped in the normal manner but the visa fee will be wavered. We do charge a small fee for this service but it will save you quite a bit and help you through immigration much faster.
Your Luggage
While you are traveling around Zambia you probably won't want to carry your backpack all over the country. So you could just take a small bag with you and leave your backpack here with us to look after. We will lock it away for you and keep it safe. This is another free service that we offer, all we ask is that you stay here for a night or two, fair enough?
Security
Here at Chachacha backpackers we understand the importance in feeling safe and secure. We have two guards 24 hours a day, we also have personal, individual security boxes constructed out of steel for your use, once again for free. You will have to supply your own lock or we can sell you one, then you are the only person in the world with a key, and they are accessible 24 hours a day.
Trips, Safaris and Info
If you want information on anything at all in Zambia, then we are the people to ask. If you want to follow the normal trail to Victoria Falls or South Luangwa national Park and are a bit unsure of how to do it, then ask us. If you want something a little more adventurous like exploring the massive Bangwelu swamps or taking a dugout canoe down the Zambezi in Western Province, then its us you should ask. If it's mobile safaris or canoeing safaris you want then we are the people to see. Or if you just want to book your bunji or white water rafting experience in Victoria falls, then we can help!!!

You can either do your own laundry here at Chachacha or you could use our laundry service at reasonable prices.

Hostel accommodation with bunks and bedding. Rooms all around the pool and pub so fine if you don't want an early night. No hot water for showering. Often no water at all on either day we stayed here. — Andrew Grant (2006-06-26) Adequate facilities. Beds are not so comfy; they have seen many, many backpackers. But the service is excellent. The food is good and the beer cold. The safaris that leave weekly from Chachacha are inexpensive but the quality of the service and the quality of the guides are superb. — Barbara A. (2005-04-25)
