Hostelz.com's Review
The Melting Pot Hostel Malaga is just across the road from the water -- it's a bay of sorts, but there is sand, albeit no surf, and it is visible from the hostel. Road noise is also audible, but, hey, breakfast is included -- it consists of all-you-can-eat toast/butter/jam/coffee/tea, and milk. There is plenty of opportunity to meet other guests and, well, it's a kicked-back kind of place.

The Location

The hostel is outside of Malaga's city center and a serious walk to town. There is no nearby supermarket, however, it is as near to beachfront property without actually being beachfront as you might get. Sand can be streaming through your toes in a matter of seconds and if you were to dare, swimming can be done in the bay a few seconds later. If you are lucky enough, free street parking is available.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorm rooms are mixed-sex, double bunks with secure lockers, but there is only one ensuite bathroom/shower for ten guests to a room. There is a common toilet downstairs, but just one, which does not seem to be a problem. The shower is a bit shabby and pressure is weak with hot water. Windows in rooms open up to a sea breeze and beds are comfortable, though hairs of former guests found in clean linen is not pleasant. Rooms are not wheelchair accessible.

Common Spaces

The kitchen is spacious, a bit of wasted space, though it is well equipped with four stovetop burners and a good selection of dish and cookware in excellent condition for preparing meals. Two refrigerators and a microwave for guests are also available. The outdoor common area is large and a great setting for guests to mingle; inside, a full bar is at the ready with Wi-Fi and internet machines nearby, both of which are swift. There is no proper dining area, so the lounge doubles for a breakfast area; tabletops are minimal, making for an awkward rush if the hostel is at capacity.

Summary

This is a nice getaway kind of hostel, with a bit of traffic noise from the main corridor to Malaga central. This is a chilled-out hostel that could use a bit of a refreshing or expanding of showers/bathrooms, but overall, it is a good base for exploring the coast and onward.

1   DON'T GO IN THIS HOSTEL! After 3 days there we did not see the time to leave from that hostel! Dirty as I've never seen. The owner and the staff unhelpful and rude. After the holydays the BIG SURPRISE! They have stolen from my credit card the money for 1 night more! The payment was made 3 hours after I leaved the hostel! Now I understand why when I paid cash they did not wanted to give me a receipt! It's better for you not to go in that place!!  , Italy ()
1   Very poor It was too far from the city center, rooms of 10 beds had only 1 toilet, 1 shower, and 1 sink, all in the same room, so you couldn't use the shower when someone was in the toilet and vice versa. Also the breakfast was really sh*tty, white sandwiches with only jelly to put on and biscuits. The floor was always dirty, the sink smelled horrible, and after reading about 'bedbugs' I could explain all the bumps I found on my legs, arms, hands. The 'deluxe breakfast' has a tiny sausage (not a BIG one as they say in the flyer), only 1 egg (not eggs), a dirty tortilla, and two halves of one white sandwich.  , Dutch ()
4   Excellent Seriously, you cannot ask for more in a backpacking experience, or for that matter, any travel experience. The staff at the hostal is bi- if not tri-lingual, and every night is a party. The place is clean, it offers tons of services (laundry, food, a fully stocked bar). I suggest getting the six-bed dorm with the private bath, as the bathroom is nicer than some upscale hotels. Additionally, you are outside of central Malaga, which is a five-minute bus ride away. But you are practically on the beach, which is a five-minute walk down the street. If you go, plan to meet people from all over the world, party hard (if you want, the place is quiet after midnight), and have the time of your life.  , USA ()
1   Poor booking service The hostel lost our booking after two emails to confirm as well as a phone call. When we arrived, after waiting for ten minutes for the girl to acknowledge our presence, they told us we booked for the wrong month and wasn't very helpful. We found a pension close by with air con for about the same price, so it worked out well in the end.  , Australian ()
