5   Clean room and bed I booked a place for a shared dorm but it was like a private room for me because I was the only one staying in the room. The beds are very comfortable and clean. The room is very clean and comes with Wifi too. Excellent. Highly recommended.  , Malaysia ()
5   Very good owner and is a clean, safe place to stay; great kitchen too! I stayed there in april of 2009 for almost a month. Joseph the owner and operator is good to his guests and he does clean the place regularly. I stayed in a private room and i would highly recommend staying there again. I will be returning back to anchorage alaska again and will stay there any time.  , united states ()
3   Low Rent and Safe This place gets the job done if you need a low dollar place to stay while in town. The rooms are barely furnished with an old tube type TV a mattress on a frame. No table and chair of any kind and zero art. The shared bathrooms are the same. No place to place your clothes while you shower except the back of the toilet. Some do have a hook but that's it. There is absolutely no place to set your stuff while you brush your teeth and shave, except that toilet. This overall lack of minimal furniture is the normal for this operation and gives you a feeling that they must be in it for maximum profit. Also there is no comfortable chairs in the common room, I guess they cost to much to install and may cut into the profit margin for the owners. A large portion of the trim around the doors is missing and doors don't close correctly and have large gaps you can see and here through. I contribute this to the armature work of the owner trying to do remodel on his own but would rather sit in his room and play video games then finish the work. Oh and don't expect anyone to clean your room or clean sheets your on your own and can wash them for coins in the laundry downstairs. They do kick in some laundry soap but there is no rod to hang your stuff on as you pull your stuff out, or a table. Must be that minimal input mentality again. There are a lot of transient types on there way to Walmart in the area. I stayed for a long time due to the good price. Then they got greedy and raised the price for summer.  , USA ()
5   Pleasant stay for first timer I had never stayed at a hostel before, so I was a little nervous about how the experience would turn out. Arctic Adventure provided me with a pleasant first impression. The hostel provided a shuttle from the airport. The place was always clean. Comfortable beds. Good location. I would definitely recommend this hostel.  , USA ()
4   Clean, comfortable, and friendly Arriving after 1 a.m., I felt welcomed and well informed about the area. My room was clean and secure with the whole atmosphere relaxing.  , Canada ()
5   Clean, cheap, and lots of extras cheap, well equipped, internet, laundry room access, towels, near groceries store. not right downtown if that's what you are looking for. The walk to the downtown area (say C street and Fifth Street) is about twenty-five minutes. Walmart is a couple of blocks away and a four-minute drive to Safeway groceries store. I stayed in this hostel for three nights in June 2007. The owner lives there, so he is often there to respond to your needs. Sometimes he's out running errands, but if you tell him you arrive at that time, he'll be here. He is a nice guy. Your room comes with a key and towels (just ask) and has bed sheets, a blanket, pillows, and a few coat hangers. There is also a TV with cable TV access as well as a fridge. There is one computer in the main room for free internet access. Laundry is open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. $1 per load ($1 washer and $1 dryer). The kitchen is pretty big with a huge bar style counter in the middle to accommodate everybody. The kitchen is well equipped (two sinks, a stove, oven, a microwave, pots, pans, cups, bowls), one toaster (plus one that doesn't work). There is free coffee. You get free pancake mix, but you have to make the dough yourself. Still, it's a free breakfast. Because it has a lot of guests, there always seem to be interesting free fresh food left from previous guests (butter, jam, bread). There are also a bunch of herbs and seasoning. There are two full size bathrooms on each floor for a total of four bathrooms and about twenty rooms total. It seems that you can always find one open when you want it. The overall looks is not the cleanest as far as painting and conditions, but it's clean and maintained. Then again, you're staying in a hostel, not a hotel room that would cost you three to five times that much. It's a good deal. Of course, the best of all hostel is the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and learn about other cultures and tips for traveling yourself. So enjoy the word!  , USA ()
5  I stayed for a total of six nights of ten spent in Alaska in January 2007. It was economical, clean, and felt very safe. I found Joseph, the owner, very helpful, and keen to make my stay in Alaska as good as possible. I particularly appreciated that he was sensitive to women travelers -- there was a big sign saying "no pornography" on the (free to use) computer and he said that some females staying elsewhere had found open use of internet porn quite intimidating. It was possible to be private or friendly. Most of the people staying were there for the winter, doing temporary jobs and it was interesting to talk to them and get their take on Anchorage and Alaska. Location good -- downtown and bus routes accessible, great baker/cafe (Europa) five minutes' walk, gear shops and two good whole food cafes ten minutes walk, airport five miles.  ()
5  I stayed in this hostel for two weeks on and off in December of 2006 and it was a very enjoyable experience. The other travelers were very friendly and we'd sit in the day room and exchange stories about our travels. The hostel staff was very helpful and accommodating. The owner most especially helped me get a good deal on my travel arrangements. The place is quiet and very clean. You get the most value for your money. I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Alaska.  ()
