The Hostelz.com Review
Check-in at the 2GO4 Quality Hostel is painfully slow. When we arrived, there were only two parties ahead of us, and we had to wait fifty minutes to be helped. This was not due to any difficulties or special needs by the other parties; rather, it is some sort of systematic inefficiency. At check-in, the reception will inform you that if you aren’t charging a minimum amount on your credit card, you will need to pay cash. They will direct you to an ATM near the hostel if you don’t have enough cash on your person. In addition, you will be asked to leave an extra fee or photo ID as a deposit for your key. The will also charge you a "cleaning fee" for your towel, unless you bring your own. The first impression is that this is a nickel-and-dime organization, which does not fade as the stay wears on.
The Location
Aside from the fact that Brussels is the de facto capital of the European Union and is a good place to visit if you are fascinated with politics, you would be hard pressed to find a reason to visit the city that gave us "Tin-Tin."
The hostel is situated near the red light district of Brussels, but don't expect a fancy, kitschy red light district in the style of Amsterdam. This is a high-crime area and you need to be on guard at all times. During our stay at the 2GO4 Quality Hostel, there were two assaults of hostel visitors (in the form of unsuccessful robberies) in front of the hostel, and one successful theft of a large amount of money from a hosteler at the ATM near the hostel (the same one that you are told to go to, if you can’t use your credit card at check-in).
Regarding transportation, it is a short walk from the Gare du Nord station (which services international trains and buses) in one direction and the De Brouckère metro station in the other. From here you can connect to any location in Brussels.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The website says that there is a thirty-five-year-old upper age limit for the dorm rooms; either we look much younger than our age or that rule was waived. The rooms are of an average size; the dorm room (ours was a six-person) is neither big nor small. Unfortunately, there is no heat in the rooms. It was between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius during our stay, and that sleeping room got very chilly at night. The room itself is worn-out -- it isn’t filthy, but it needs a serious paint job, or even the slightest bit of TLC. There are no lockers for security. Many of the rooms face the street, which is a busy boulevard. Traffic noise could be heard during the night.
Bathrooms are located on every floor -- they are tiny, but they work. The showers are also located every floor. The water is always hot, so no complaints there.
Common Spaces
There is a sufficient common area on the ground floor; however, it is closed between 1 and 4 p.m., and again from 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. This is a major inconvenience to visitors, and it seems that the 2G04 Quality hostel is trying to save some money by limiting access. There is free wireless internet, but the service is spotty at best and it was not functioning for about half of our visit. There are a few computers in the common area, which can be used free of charge. There is a kitchen for those who like to prepare their own breakfast (and supermarkets nearby to purchase food and supplies). No meals are served by the hostel. There is no smoking allowed in the hostel (smokers are crowded at the front door, as is common in most hostels). That being said, we could smell smoke common from one of the staff areas, and it wasn’t tobacco -- this might explain why the receptionist worked so slowly.
Summary
In the end, we were glad to leave Brussels, and the general vibe of the 2G04 Quality Hostel was a big part of it. Our only recommendation would be to book a bed at this hostel only if all of the other places in town are full, and you absolutely have to be in Brussels.

Great stuff I really enjoyed my stay -- very friendly and forthcoming staff, nice atmosphere, clean rooms and bathrooms, nice shared space, music & tv sometimes maybe a bit too loud, anytime again! — Aleks, Bristol , Germany (2010-09-04)

Really great! This hostel is extremely clean, from the rooms to the common room to the bathrooms. The common room has four computers with free internet and a big screen TV so everyone uses the common room, which means it's really easy to meet people! It's situated perfectly between Nord station and Central station -- you really couldn't ask for a better location. Two-minute walk to the nearest metro. The girl at the desk was a bit rude, but hostel staff tends to have such a high turnover rate that I'm sure she'll be gone soon. Free hot drinks in the morning until 10:30 but get there early because I got there at 10 a.m. and all the plastic cups were gone and they didn't have any mugs. Lockers in the room but you will need your own lock. They sell them at reception or bring your own. Overall, a great experience, would stay there again in a heartbeat! — Lone Traveler , USA (2009-01-07)

Stayed here a couple of years ago, so things could have changed The only thing I had an issue with at this hostel were the owners who are brothers. They were jerks and not particularly friendly or helpful. The actual logistics of this hostel was fine though. It was clean, fairly an easy place to meet others, and in a nice location with hot showers. Probably would go back though. — JG , USA (2009-01-05)

You have to stay there! We stayed there for one night on 13th of july and it was really a good hostel! nice staff, clean toilets/showers and rooms, free internet, and great kitchen equipment. If you go to Brussels, you have to stay there! — Katja , Switzerland (2008-12-14)

Almost perfect! This was the best hostel I've stayed at during my travels so far! The dorm was huge, but very clean and modern with comfy beds (each with its own light and outlet) and huge lockers. The lounge was incredibly conducive to socializing and the internet was free. however, the lounge (as well as reception) closes during the afternoon for several hours and at night after eleven. In my opinion (and the opinions of several people I met there), if the lounge stayed open later or all night, the hostel would've been perfect. It was inconvenient to be told to vacate the room at eleven, when everyone was having fun and chatting. Other than that, the hostel was very safe with everyone having key-card access to the building and rooms, and very fun. I definitely recommend it! the pictures on this site must be very outdated, because that is not what the lounge looks like at all. It's actually better. — Nicole , USA (2008-06-13)

Perfect! Beds are so comfortable, showers are great, common areas are well decorated, large, friendly, internet access for free, big TV, nice kitchen, good location! — Marie-Pier , Canada (2008-01-09)

Very comfortable Very clean and comfortable hostel. The common area is very nice with kitchen and TV room. The internet access is free. Very good location and safe hostel. — Ale , Brazil (2008-01-01)

Wonderful The hostel was generally pretty great. Having twenty-four-hour access to get in is nice, and the common area and kitchen were great as well. Though it is a little bit like living inside of an ikea, it's all nicely furnished. Down comforters and clean sheets. — Lillian , usa (2007-09-09)
Horrible i stayed here in mid july 07, and while staying here i was robbed and it was the hostel's fault. i had my stuff in my locker with a padlock, and the keys were in my jeans on the floor at the end of my bed. when the staff went home at midnight they taped a key to the hostel and my room to the outside door, like right on the street. and during the night someone used it to come in and steal stuff. now i know i should have woken up but you know what it's like in a hostel -- someone is always moving around. anyhow in the morning the guys weren't that sympathetic. i had to go to the police and do everything myself, and while they did let me stay there another night, (like i had a choice), they never once apologized for leaving the key outside or took responsibility for what happened. now i know stuff happens but i genuinely think they had a lot of responsibility in this case, i mean who leaves a key outside and goes home? so i am just saying if you stay here you might want to ask if they are going to leave a key outside before you fall asleep. — katrina , canadian (2007-08-13)

Nice clean hostel, friendly staff, and in walking distance to the city center and the Brussels North Station. Large common room with plasma TVs and free internet. The room itself (we booked a four-person private room) was very small, it almost felt like a ship's cabin, with two bunk beds. We didn't get hot water a few times. Apart from those issues 2GO4 is a good choice if you're looking for a clean hostel in the center of Brussels. — Husky , The Netherlands (2007-05-05)

Very clean and well organized. The guy at the front desk was a lot of help and gave helpful information. The hostel is in walking distance of the main part of the city. The free Internet was pretty slow but hey, it was free. The lounge area was modern and a great place for youth. My friends and I had a great sleep there and thought this was one of the best hostels we stayed at. — Bunker , USA (2007-04-02)

Can I live here? That's literally what I thought when I entered this hostel. They had a ultra-modern lounge with flatscreen TVs and computers. Their kitchen was fully stocked -- you could literally cook a five-course meal. The fridge was a tad full, but you could move (ahem, toss) the older stuff. This hostel is located near Gare du Nord and 2 metro stops. Brussels metro system was a bit confusing, but basically, you're only a couple of stops away from either train station. Walking distance to the old parts of the city where the Grand Place, Mannequin Pis, and St. Catherine's cathedral were. Loved Gehry street -- tons and tons of excellent food. I went to a concert at AB -- also walking distance. Lots of cool bars and supermarkets. Absolutely spotless. The room I was in was carpeted. The bathroom was down a small flight of steps but I've learned that keeping the toilet away from the room is a good thing. There was a shower and sink in the room -- they had sensored lights. So cool. The beds also looked new -- very clean sheets and a super comfortable feather duvet. Loved the fact that there were lockers in the room and mine even had a fireplace. I had no problems with the staff as they were super friendly and knowledgeable -- allowing me to check in even though the front desk was closed. While there is no free breakfast, the internet is free and the vending machine has decently priced drinks. The TV is a nice touch with comfy couches and plenty of room to eat -- including a really cool, wooden dining table. I also liked the fact that there was no lockout. This means that if you're an early bird and wanted to nap at 3 p.m. (as I did), it was fine. If you're going to Brussels for business or moving there, I'd try to stay at this place because it's probably cheaper and better than apartments. I'd move there if I could! — Helen F. , San Francisco, CA (2007-03-27)

Excellent. The location was great. It was downtown and only five to ten minutes away from the main square and that famous statue. It was really clean, modern, and new. We even got a room with our own private bathroom and even A/C! Also it was pretty cool that it had a vending machine for 1 euro stellas. The fridge and kitchen were nice but the fridge had obviously not been clean out of old food in some time creating little room. There was free internet but as you might imagine there was usually someone on it. My only negative for the hostel is the fact that owners are very strict about the check in times. If you come in five minutes before the ending of a check in shift, they will not check you in, no exceptions. Other than that they were great. — Scott (2007-02-24)

This hostel is a little on the pricey side, but i found it to be extremely refreshing. The pros are that is very modern and fun. There's a TV, magazines, and free internet. And at least for me, my room was huge with a little balcony type thing, and a bathroom and toilet for just my four-person room. I don't think all of the rooms have that though, but my room was amazing. The beds are extremely comfy. You get a nice clean down comforter. It does have a nice social atmosphere, even when I went there in late November. It wasn't a crazy party hostel because they lock the common room at 11, but it's still pretty stimulating if that's what you're looking for. The only con I found really, was there's no free breakfast, but I usually never get up that early anyway, so I didn't care. Anyway, I highly recommend this hostel. It's a nice break from some many of the sh*t holes out there. — Minnie Bredouw (2006-11-23)
Did not even make it to the hostel!!! Canceled my booking the day I arrived in Brussels. They confirmed my booking after 3rd reminder and never bothered to reply to my mails when I asked for directions. EXTREMELY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! — Ann (2006-11-23)
