The Hostelz.com Review
A cosy, sociable hostel, Youth Hostel Terra Oculta is a great place to come if you're a lone traveler as there's a really friendly vibe here.
The Location
It's not as central as the other hostels in Salta but it's only a short, walkable distance from the bus station. The city's main hot spots are also near enough to walk or within a quick taxi ride. If you end up in the Annexe, it‘s located a road away from the hostel's main facilities (kitchen and bar), so bear this in mind if you're given the option.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Although this is not one of those sterile, squeaky clean hostels, it's not particularly dirty either. The place has a real charm to it, especially in the quaint looking hostel annexe. You don't get a room key, which is a bit disconcerting for those with precious belongings or travelers who may feel a bit vulnerable. The lockers are provided in the room, however the lock feels a bit flimsy -- the more cautious may end up hugging their passport throughout their stay here. The bathrooms are satisfactorily clean but from some rooms it's a bit of an annoying trek in your towel through a communal area. However the showers are joyously powerful.
Common Spaces
This hostel has fantastic common spaces. There's lot's going on outside, including table tennis, a lively outside bar (with roof for rainy spells), and seating areas to serve the all-you-can-eat buffets that are put on regularly by the staff. The food is not only incredibly tasty, healthy, and plentiful but the buffets are a great way to meet fellow travelers. The computer room is a bit lame but acceptable for a smallish hostel, consisting of one old computer and some seats squashed into the tiny room.
Summary
This is a great place to meet people. The atmosphere is very laid back and friendly and the annexe has real character. The number one tip if you do decide to stay here -- take part in the buffet, it‘s a real treat.

I've travelled through South America for six months and this hostel is one of my favorites! The crew is great, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is big, they clean every day! Just a great atmosphere, especially if you stay in the main building. — Yvonne (2006-09-28)
