The Hostelz.com Review
The hostel is easy to find and is about halfway between Interlaken Ost and Interlaken West railway stations – although getting there from Interlaken Ost is a little easier. It is 5 minutes walk from the main street, Hoheweg and all of its shops, restaurants and bars.

Backpackers Villa is without doubt one of the better Swiss hostels. It is impeccably clean and well maintained. The staff are very friendly on arrival – and give you a good rundown on what is available in Interlaken, and give you some souvenirs such as a postcard and a pen. They can also do package deals including skipasses and ski equipment for various durations. Checkin times are a little inflexible though (4-9 pm only) but if you arrive later than 9 pm they will leave the keys in a box at the door.

The hostel is run by the Swiss United Methodist Church so there is a meditation room, onsite chaplain, and numerous biblical references around the place – but don't let that put you off. Breakfast is included and is always a high standard – juice, tea/coffee, cereal and toast. There is also a TV in the breakfast room showing a live webcam of the conditions on the skislopes so you know what to expect when you get up there.

Backpackers Villa is a quiet hostel – certainly compared to Balmer's down the road – but whilst there might not be drinking into the wee small hours there are still a lot of people happy to have a chat. The kitchen is well equipped and large so it is easy to cook yourself a cheap meal rather than paying exorbitant restaurant prices

At the time of this review, CHF29 is the going rate for a dorm and is expensive compared to other places in Interlaken – but Backpackers Villa is more central, includes breakfast and is quieter than the others. CHF2/12 minutes for the internet is expensive but you won't find any cheaper elsewhere in town.

Interlaken as a town is an enjoyable place – ideally located for both skiing and sightseeing. Railpasses and skipasses can be bought at the hostel, the tourist information centre and the railway stations. There are many skiing options, along with the possibility of travelling up to Jungfraujoch – at 3454m it's the highest station in Europe and has ideal views of Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger mountains. There is also the Piz Gloria restaurant at Schilthorn, with more excellent views – and it is the place where the 007 movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was filmed in 1968.

4 Good facilities
We slept in a big, six-bed dorm with big lockers in the room. If this is not enough there are also lockers in the corridor, which you can use for free. They were renovating the hostel, they are building a building next door. To compensate this, they give you coins with you can use for the coffee, washing machine, or the internet. There was a big kitchen, fully equipped. The breakfast was ok, not as extensive as the breakfast at the other hostels. Everything was clean and there was a nice atmosphere.

5 Very helpful, friendly, and hospitable
A home away from home. Friendly, courteous staff, and adequate cooking facilities. Breakfast was simple with bread, nutella (which tasted better in Switzerland than anywhere else in Europe), juice, and cereal. Perhaps, hostel can consider some addition to the breakfast -- for example, cheese, ham, and a variety of rolls and bread. Centrally located and within walking distance of all places in Interlaken. Would definitely recommend this place to friends.

3 Good juice for breakfast
checking in was kind of a shock because this is an expensive hostel! reception is closed until 4, so if you come any earlier bring a lock and use their free lockers. this hostel has a quiet kitchen, organized and clean rooms (everyone gets a locker), and a typical hostel breakfast. they were renovating at the time so we got some free internet/laundry token and a souvenir pen which is nice but i'd rather have a couple euros knocked off the price instead. rooms have good views, but is there a bad view when you're in the middle of the Swiss Alps? come on, now.

5 Would give it ten stars if I could. Best hostel anywhere.
Everything is extremely clean. Staff is wonderful. Linens included and very comfortable beds with duvets. Free lockers. Excellent free breakfast. Nice showers. Gorgeous views of Jungfrau from the rooms, many of which have balconies! Sinks in rooms. Free WiFi! not a party hostel, though.

4 Good, clean, quiet hostel
I'm a hiker and this is exactly the sort of place you need after a long day in the mountains. I stayed in Interlaken for six days and the scenery was absolutely stunning. The rooms were all spotlessly clean as were the bathroom facilities. Beds were solid with firm mattresses -- they didn't wobble when someone got onto the top bunk, unlike flimsier bunks in other hostels, and the mattresses were firm so you got a good night's sleep. I also liked the little touches such as signs for each locker which you could hook onto the side of your bed to "claim" your bed, and labeled hooks for towels. Breakfast was standard OJ, hot drink, cereal and bread, but at all-you-can-eat, easily filled you up for the day. They also had a webcam in the breakfast room showing the weather on the major peaks so you knew whether or not to head for the hills or find something else to do. As it was it only rained on one day (which was good for seeing the Trummelbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen). The owners were also extremely friendly and helpful. They had all the useful information such as maps, local train timetables for the mountain railways and would even book activities such as paragliding and ice-climbing. I really enjoyed the ice-climbing since I've never seen a glacier before and it was great fun.

5 This place has a wonderful atmosphere based on a Christian ethos of serving the backpacking community. All the staff were very friendly, very helpful with travel and other information, the meditation room with its Bibles from many languages was special, the showers were very good and easy to control, and you could watch webcams whilst you had your breakfast. If Backpackers had a weakness it was the kitchen which could be better, especially if the place was full, but there are plenty of other places to eat in Interlaken.

5 I stayed here in August 2006 and it was hands-down the best hostel of my month-long trip. The staff was very helpful (and alcohol-friendly), and the hostel was very clean (nearly hotel-quality). The Internet access, though more expensive than most of Europe, was the cheapest in town. The rooms were very nice, with new furnishings and a small sink. Bathrooms were clean, and there's even one with a full shower and tub. Breakfast was simple (cereal, bread, and nutella) and all-you-can-eat. If it's raining outside, check out the rec room with its big screen TV and foosball table. The walk to the main part of Interlaken is short. If I ever return to Interlaken, this will be the first place I'll stay at even if I could afford a hotel.

4 a wonderful and very clean hostel with good communal facilities. showers and toilets could be a few more, but they were always spic 'n span. only funny thing is the kitchen in the basement, I felt a little lost in it. anyhow, a great, clean, and friendly place to stay.

5 I LOVED this place. Of my 14 country 3 month trip in Europe, this was one of my favourite hostels. I was travelling alone, and although I wanted to meet people, I wasn't interested in meeting a bunch of drunk Americans/Australians, and this turned out to be the right place. I met some really nice, friendly and down-to-earth travellers. First of all, I found the staff lovely. Catherine, one of the owners was really kind and helpful with things from where to have a drink, great hiking trails and adventure advice. The place itself was the cleanest hostel I stayed in. It was also really accommodating with lockers, internet access (some free sites like hostel booking!), free movies, phone booth, and a fully equipped kitchen with basics (oil, salt, etc.) provided. Overall, if you aren't weirded out by Christians (I usually am, but it wasn't an issue at all), then you'll really enjoy this hostel. I especially recommend it for families, and people who are travelling alone but aren't party animals.

5 I stayed at this hostel in September 2004 and it was hands-down the cleanest and calmest hostel I've been to. As others have said, the lockers were big enough to fit almost any bag, everything was provided, and the kitchen layout was amazing! I had a room on the mountain side of the hostel, and the view was spectacular. There's an elevator, even though there are only three or four floors. I was there in the off-season, so there wasn't much going on. Being a single female traveler, I felt very safe.

5 Excellent! Top rating for cleanliness. It is actually amazing how clean it is...the showers, the rooms, the common areas, everything. Plenty of common areas, very small dorm sizes, helpful staff, and breakfast included. No parties, though. If you want to party stay elsewhere, but if you want to sleep so that you can enjoy the amazing hiking in the morning, this is the place to be.

5 No question this is the best hostel I stayed at in my three weeks in Europe! VERY clean, safe. Beautiful view. Hot showers. Free, great breakfast prepared for you! Internet available for a reasonable price. Free ping-pong. Very quiet and VERY comfortable beds! Incredible hostel!

5 I was here just this week and it's a lovely, clean and friendly hostel. It's easy to get to from both train stations opposite the casino straight across the park. And the area itself is central for getting to most places. There were no real religious overtones, just a few quotes on a message board. and each day they put out a leaflet out on tables at breakfast that suggest things that you could do around town for the day and there was a little quote on that. E.g. life's worth living and you do count kind of thing. Nothing to worry about! The dorms, kitchen and showers and toilets were spotless. For breakfast you choose what you want to eat, and can have as much as you like. Check-in is straightforward; you get your keys, a map of essential places such as shops, train stations, etc. and a towel. My only but small negative is the size bath towel you get, which could be bigger. You also get your bedding and a locker key for a good-sized locker that's inside your dorm. Take along a spare padlock as they have bigger day lockers you can use for free in the corridor outside your dorm. The ski hire shop is just around the corner (you need a credit card for ski hiring equipment as security) and the ski bus picks you up at the hostel in the morning and drops you off again in the evening. it's included in the ski pass. The hostel even gets you a 10 percent discount on equipment. The well-thought-out kitchen has two cooker hobs, and a microwave. They have all the kitchen equipment and utensils you need, and fridges and freezers for your shopping. We just made sure we labeled our food and nothing was ever taken. I'd return to this hostel — in fact I'm thinking of another trip this year! Thank you for a nice stay!

5 This was a very nice, clean place to stay. It had a great kitchen, friendly staff, good location, and a nice yard area. It was one of the best-run hostels we saw in Europe. There was a social environment, but one could also get a good night's sleep. I stayed 2 nights and would definitely stay here again if in Interlaken.

5 You'll never find ANY hostels better than this. This is very clean, and the staff were very helpful and nice. And the location is perfect for everywhere. If you go to Interlaken, I really want to recommend that you stay here. You'll LOVE IT!
