The Hostelz.com Review
Located between Naples and the ferries to Sicily, Onda Road Hostel is a nice stopver for those who don´t want to do the long trip to and from Sicily in one go. There is not much of importance for travelers in Praja di Mare.
Location
The pick-up from the train station is a big plus when arriving at Praja´s station (they offer this service if the owner or a member of the family has time). A drop-off at the station after check out can be arranged. Otherwise it is a rough, twenty-minute walk to the hostel. There is not much around the hostel and the beach (pebble, not sand) is a five-minute walk. Supermarkets are in the center of town, a fifteen-minute walk away.
Rooms and Bathroom
You are staying at a family's home. The dorms and private rooms are on the first and second floor. Bathrooms are communal. The dorms have single and bunk beds -- first come first take. They have hot water twenty-four/seven, but be aware that young female travelers might occupy the two bathrooms for more than just five minutes.
Common Spaces
A kitchen invites travelers to cook their own meals. TV, movies, stereo, and a nice sitting area make a good place to meet people staying. The months between June and September are the best time to meet up with fellow travelers, as the rest of the year the hostel becomes pretty empty. For those who are traveling alone, Silija, the German shepherd lady, will keep you company while guarding the house. A washing machine is outside and if you stay more than three nights, it is free to use.
Summary
Onda Road is a nice idea, owned by a well traveled, young Italian woman. The hostel offers some tours to the small neighboring island (it has a blue grotto) and to a Jesus statue. Paragliding and other activities are offered close to the town of Praja di Mare.
