The Tourist's Rest is fairly nice, relaxed hostel. So relaxed in fact, when we arrived it appeared that we were the only people there. It's about a ten-minute walk from the centre on Tennant Creek, within easy access to a supermarket and about twenty-minute walk from the BP Greyhound drop-off.
The owner, Tony, is quite happy to pick you up or drop you off at the Greyhound bus point -- and boy, you'll be glad of that. The bus from Darwin arrives at just after two in the morning. So when you're completely tired and not with it, he'll pick you up and whisk you off to the hostel. Make sure you book in advance for this.
Rooms were clean and tidy. Ours had a TV and refrigerator (which was a bonus). There are only three beds to a dorm. The bathrooms are a little on the grubby side and it should be noted that the male bathroom does have a terrible pub-toilet-like smell, which is a bit off-putting. Soap dispenser above the sinks is usually empty.
The kitchen/communal area is clean and accessible. There weren't too many people there, so things looked very well looked after. There is a free video rental of about forty titles to borrow and watch. Although there is a computer terminal, we were informed that it was dead. Internet access can be found in the town centre however. The hostel will arrange trips out to Devils Marbles on request, you need at least two people. Overall, it's a quiet, basic, and fairly friendly hostel that will make a nice break either between Darwin, Alice Springs, or Mount Isa.

Not to bad for few hours We stay only one night because we are waiting our next bus for the east coast. You can sleep until 11am and no stress nobody are there for the check out. You can stay in the hostel until your bus departure. They take you and drop you to the bus station for free. Facilities -- TV, free DVD, playstation and games, free breakfast, VIP card accepted. The hostel are old, no very clean (bugs, bin no empty in the room, wc and shower a bit disgusting and broken) but it's the only one backpacker in the town, not expensive, good facilities when you are nothing to do at Tennant Creek. — Nol and JC , France (2010-04-09) Grateful for a bed for the night! When we arrived in Tennant Creek it was 2 a.m. on a Friday night. The local bar was spilling out drunk customers on to the streets, who were being pulled off each other by policemen! So we were glad that the hostel owner kindly picked us up from the bus stop and took us to the hostel. The only hostel in Tennant Creek, it was fairly basic. The toilets and showers were outside in a little unit, right outside the rooms. The rooms were clean and cosy, although we did find a dead huntsman spider in the blind that looked like he'd been there a while! We were stuck there overnight, and were originally misled by the owner, who told us we could check out whenever. This quickly changed as soon as we arrived to strictly 11 a.m. When we tried to check out though, he was no where to be seen, so we could have slept longer! After a fourteen-hour bus, we needed it. However the hostel facilities were good for the weary traveler. Free Playstation games, DVDs, and a cosy TV room were available all day. We did however have to shout through a window to wake the owner up for him to take us to the bus stop! Bless him. If you go to Tennant Creek, eat at the Tennant Creek Hotel. There really is nowhere else that you would want to eat, and this was a diamond in the rough.
