The Hostelz.com Review
From the bus station, the Calafate Hostel is about a 10-minute walk. It is a bit tricky to find the place, but just remember to walk downhill towards the center of town. A map is definitely helpful and is available from the tourist info booth at the bus station.
Although this hostel is very big, there are enough common areas where you can relax and have space to yourself so it doesn't feel like a big motel. For example, you can hang out in the bar/restaurant area, surf the Internet, eat upstairs in the dining area, or sit on the cool balcony that's part of your room. Overall, it has some very cozy areas.
The rooms are very airy and get good sunlight. You can hang things to dry and leave hiking boots on the balcony, which is helpful! The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are kept clean. The bathroom is very good with plenty of hot showers and toilets. The kitchen is also a good size and you can have four or five people in there cooking at the same time.
The staff are extremely helpful and many excursions to El Chalten or the Perito Moreno can be booked at the front desk. Information is clearly displayed for the options and prices. Airport transfers are also available and the service is recommended.

Stayed there one night and am never going back. The staff was very unfriendly and even rude. — Ruth (2007-03-18)

I stayed here for one night, and did find it very impersonal. the open social spaces are vast and don't encourage interaction. Although it is central I wouldn't recommend it. — Female, 37 (2007-02-09)
if you like huge, impersonal, characterless hostels with super uninterested and unfriendly staff, stay here. it looks good on the brochure, and even from the outside, but its more a wanna-be hotel than a hostel. this becomes even more clear from the 30 peso dorm rate and the 7 peso white bread breakfast. stay somewhere else, believe me. — joe (2006-12-22)

This is the best in Calafate. — Marcela Sandra Slaven (2005-06-03)

The best hostel in the world, with the best people, the best price and service. It is a great hostel, and the excursion was very nice. Excellent hostel. — Anonymous (2005-05-29)
