Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
1  Horrible and rude We booked to stay here on a recommendation from a friend of a friend. The room, although very cheap, is like a prison cell with the lack of natural light and windows oppressive. Our sheets were filthy when we arrived and when we asked for them to be changed the staff were extremely rude. In general, the staff on reception are very rude and unhelpful. The restaurant upstairs is a nice place to sit, and the food is good, however service is often very slow and the staff unapologetic about it. Would not recommend this hostel to anyone.  , England ()
1  Ok hostel, terrible staff. A cheap guesthouse with a good enough set-up and free river trips which are a major bonus. However, our stay was ruined by terrible staff service. Not only was food over two hours late, but staff were bored, disinterested, and downright aggressive when we complained. Their attitude failed to make us welcome and left a very bad taste in the mouth. Avoid it.  ()
4  I like it at the rooftop restaurant i meet superb people from everywhere, the room was ok, the toilet flushes. i paid so less money, 200 rupies per night -- unbeatable! the food was very good, and the sight from the rooftop excellent. the internet connection something around seven hundred kbit per second. finally, insects, like ants, are everywhere in india. if you don't like it, you better go to one of the five-star-rating-best-in-town-hotels.  , german ()
1  The worst guest house! Don't give them business! The room I stayed in was like a prison cell with no windows with natural light! There was a terrible smell from the bathroom and I had to use the outside toilette as mine did not flush properly. The owner promised me a better room the next morning as I had requested a room with windows with natural light. Come the next morning the owner told me the room would be ready at 12. Come 12 another "helper" tells me,"Sorry Madame, we have no room with a window. It is full." I got very angry and told them not to make promises if they were not 100% sure! I found a better room only five minutes walking distance away, but continued to frequent the Shanti GuestHouse rooftop restaurant because I had originally come there with friends who were not as picky about jail cell rooms as myself, so they had ended up staying on there. They charge 40 rupees and hour to use their slow computers that often have insects and ants crawling around all over the area. One time when I was using the internet I changed computers because I kept losing my connection and when one of the guys saw I'd changed computers he started yelling at me! I told him he was rude and that the connection was faster on the other one, but in the end I decided to only pay him 30 rupees as I had lost considerable time with failed and slow connections. This guy became very angry when I told him that I didn't think I should pay 40 rupees and so then he told me not to pay anything at all, but never to come back there. So I said, "Let's discuss this with the downstairs manager" so we went downstairs and I told my side very calmly and he yelled angrily in Hindi and English saying "I don't like it when people complain! If you are not happy with the internet you should leave after ten minutes." I tried to explain what was customer service, but he was clueless and continued to talk to me in a very rude manner, then even muttered "bitch" under his breath. I tell you, the reception area is infested with large, black ants and other creepy crawly insects, which they don't seem to care if it is dirty or not! I would not sit on any of the reception furniture because it is so filthy! Their rooftop restaurant also served two of my friends a "special lassi" which was laced with very strong Bang and marijuana which left them with terrible headaches and fears of not coming out of their "trips" (giving drugs to tourists is irresponsible of them!). Finally, I happened to bump into other tourists who'd been treated rudely by the staff. This couple was woken up at 11 at night and demanded to pay 10 rupees for the internet! I think the place is a dump, filthy, smelly, and nasty staff and would not recommend even my dog to go there!  , Canadian ()
1  Not happy at all with guesthouse. When we arrived they had only one room left and it was really expensive. We took it anyway and it was extremely bad value -- the shower was caked in limescale and there were ants all over the place. It wasn't worth half the price. The hotel manager is completely unhelpful and rude and a rip off merchant. Their so-called book exchange is an excuse for them to charge a fortune for the privilege of making an exchange. The electricity was off in the hotel most of the time so we couldn't even use the air conditioning we'd paid so much for.  ()
1  If you want to be ripped-off this guesthouse is the place to be! They have a way of owing you money by saying that haven't got the exact change, then when you ask for it back they deny all knowledge.  ()
