The Hostelz.com Review
Cagliari Hostel Marina is the backpackers haven of Cagliari. It's the place to be if you're looking for a lively, energetic, yet professional hostel. In fact, Hostel Marina is almost like a cheery hotel, besides the fact that the rooms are dorm-style. It's located in the center of Cagliari and the staff are funny and youthful.
The Location
Located in the heart of Cagliari, Hostel Marina is a mere three-minute walk from all exciting places in Cagliari, including the port, Piazza Yenne, the main shopping strip, and the old castle of Cagliari. It's within a short walking distance from the bus/train station and is quite easy to find. Just follow the brown tourist signs that say "Chiesa San Sepolcro." Also, a trip to the beach on the bus is about a twenty-minute ride due to traffic, however, the beach is gorgeous!
Rooms and Bathrooms
Most of the rooms are dorm style with four to six beds per room, but there are some family rooms and some single rooms, but they of course cost more. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom (sometimes two) to be shared among the guests in that room. All the facilities are well-maintained and cleaned daily. The bathrooms have hooks to hang your towel and clothes, yet the hostel doesn't do a good job of ensuring that there is always soap at the sink. Also, the rooms contain cabinets for you to store your things, but these cabinets don't come with locks.
Common Spaces
The center courtyard of the hostel has a wonderful outdoor seating area into which the bar opens. It's a nice common area where most of the hostelers gather at night and also where breakfast is served each morning. Breakfast consists of coffee, tea, juice, milk, croissants, mini loaves of bread, butter, and jam ... all you can eat.
This hostel is extremely social and is a great way to meet new friends, especially with the parties that take place in the bar/courtyard every night. The downside is that it's difficult to get some peace and quiet in this hostel, especially late in the night. You can eliminate most of the noise by shutting your windows, but in the summertime this may not be desirable. Also, there are often many people smoking in the courtyard, so that may be something you need to keep in mind. Besides the courtyard/bar area and a nearby meeting/conference room, there are no other common spaces available. However, the hostel is in the process of renovating and expanding.

There are many different types of people in this hostel, of all different ages, ranging from young adults to middle-aged couples to senior citizen backpackers. You're sure to have a good time at Hostel Marina, especially with the two young Sardinian bartenders whom you must befriend!
