Hostelz.com's Review
Florida Hotel & Hostel is basically a hotel that has converted a handful of rooms into dorms. It's inexpensive and includes breakfast and free Wi-Fi. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and the location is in a quiet area just minutes from the main part of Sorrento.

The Location

The hostel is about fifteen minutes from the main square in Sorrento, making this a great base for exploring. The area itself, however, is made up mostly of hotels, so there aren't too many restaurants or markets or clubs in the direct vicinity. To get here from the Circumvesuviana Station, head straight out of the station and make a right onto Vico Primo Rota (it's the very narrow lane right before the Girasole hotel). Follow this down and the hostel will be on your left.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The bedrooms are small, with two bunk beds and a single bed (a total of five beds). It's a hotel as well as a hostel, so you either pay for a dorm or a hotel room. The beds are pretty comfortable and come with full linen, although the bottom bunks and the top bunks are too close together (a big problem if you're on the taller side). Each room has a small outdoor area, with a table and a couple of chairs. The doors lock securely and there are in-room lockers with locks and keys provided.

The bathrooms are spacious, although there is only one for each dorm. The shower is on the smaller side, and seems to have some draining problems, but it has good heat and water pressure and there are a couple of soap dishes. There are also plenty of places around the bathroom to hang clothes or towels.

Common Spaces

There is a bar (with a happy hour) and a restaurant where they serve a self-serve breakfast of cereal, pastries, and sometimes fruit, as well as tea and coffee. There is also a very nice pool for sunny days, and an orange and lemon grove with chairs and tables around it. There is a book exchange available in reception, and they will also store your luggage if you need to leave it.

This is a pretty social hostel -- people here are very friendly and excited to hang out and get to know you -- particularly if you are in the same room. This is not, however, a party hostel. Since it's combined with a hotel, it does have a slightly subdued atmosphere. But, it's still a fun, social place with nice people.

Summary

This hostel is a really nice, quiet budget option. The mellow atmosphere is good if you're looking to relax and enjoy the area.

5   Hostel in a hotel The 8 bed dorms are within the hotel -- so you get a pool. En suite life isn't always great but there are a few toilets around the hotel to use when your roommates are showering. A bit of a walk to the main area, but easy to walk the 10-15 mins in and easy to catch a bus with luggage.  , age 26, Australia ()
