4 Home away from home, baby!!
Arrived to A.B. Hostel (I think) around 1993 or 1994. I was young and impressionable. Met loads of new awesome people. Man, I miss those times and all the people. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that it was the best hostel to find work in all of Oz! Found full time work in two weeks!

5 well i got there in sept '97 and within two days i knew everyone. stayed on and off for the next three years (doing visa runs) even got engaged there. met loads of dodgy boys who i still keep in contact with. avalon is a dream place -- amazing waves, good pies, hot chicks, and loads of work.

5 I was in the Hostel in 2000 and I had the time of my life, despite the dirty showers and toilets. I have met amazing people that I am still in touch with and I really miss Avalon. It is perfect, it is the place to be!

2 Nice hostel, shame that a horrible murder took place here a couple of years ago.

3 I stayed in this hostel in Aug 04 - Nov 04 -- met loads of really cool people and got very drunk on boxes of wine. True to say the toliets and showers have little to be desired and the kitchen is rank, but the whole atmosphere of the place is pretty cool. Although I have not been back since the murder in Dec 04 and dont think I would like to.

4 In 1991 I spent some of the best months of my life there. I met fantastic people from all over the world and had a lot of fun. I worked at the local bakery and spent my money in the RSL. This place is really recommendable. You feel like you are in a big international family. Of course it is no palace, but if you're young, you don't care. Regards to Christine, Eddie, Jonathan, and Julian.

4 This hostel was a home away from home for the Cornish boys. The locals are stuck up their own ass, like most Australians, but it's a cool town and there is loads of work. 2E was the room of champions in 1995-96.

5 This hostel is amazing to meet people, and the staff are really nice and friendly. Especially one receptionist, Loretta, if she is still there. You're missing out if you don't go!

4 I "lived" in this hostel for several months. It's a good spot to meet people and find work easily. People there are cool, but sometimes they steal your food in the middle of the night. I stayed there in 1998. You can find better accommodation on the top floor.

5 I arrived at this hostel just before Christmas 1993 and stayed for about seven months. I had a complete blast here and was wasted most of the time!!! It has good contacts for cash in hand work. The RSL pub is across the road, and the beach is further down the road. what else do you need? I remember Tor and Sharon (Tor traveled with Adam). I also remember Martin who lived in room B. I wonder if he is still there.

5 If you're the type of person who likes their cleanliness when abroad, their home comforts, and all the other creature-comforts that aren't really that important in this life, then you'll hate this place. If, on the other hand, you like meeting people from every continent, enjoying space that allows you to be creative, whether it's painting or jamming with other guests, or just getting incredibly stoned, then this hostel's for you. I met some of my best friends here and a beautiful girl. Lick that.

3 Very fun place. It's okay as far as cleanliness and accomadations go. I spent 3 months there in 97/98 and had a blast. The beaches in the area are beautiful and the surf carnival is a blast. Get involved in the town if possible...go to the RSL, play the slots, drink cheap beer. Go to the bar in Mona Vale? Can't remember...very cool bar...big patio. I loved it.

5 I stayed there during fall '94 and had a great time. I don't know what it looks like now, but we certainly didn't stay there because of the facilities. Still, there was a very special atmosphere and great people staying there.

5 I was at this Hostel in 1994, and I met the greatest people from all over the world (I am from Canada) there, including my future wife who was travelling from Wales! We have been married for eight years, and we had a daughter last year and named her Avalon. It was a great place to find work and meet people, and it sounds like it hasn't changed a bit!! We'll be back with Avalon in tow!! Have fun!
