DO NOT GO HERE Looked at some reviews and thought this hostel would be good. BUT NO!! first we got here and were told to check in at 2pm and no one was in reception until about 4pm!! so we had to wait around! then we get to our bedroom (dirt all up the walls). Cupboards have missing doors. They say you get a kitchen in your room -- you dont. you get a sink and fridge (full of ants), small tv that doesnt work. Stains on the bed sheets! cockroaches!!! never seen so many in my life there all in the room. the bathroom is a different matter! you cant even fit 2 people in the bathroom. firstly both the shower and sink leaked so all night we could here it. the shower well you can have it even boiling hot you cant get in it or freezing cold you cant get it in! i tried changing the temperature and the shower knobs just fell off! the toilet is the most disgusting even time we flushed the toilet high pressure *water* came on the back, so every time we flushed the toilet the bathroom! the downstairs kitchen is horrible -- no one washes up their dishes no you had nothing to use, about a million ants over the counters cockroaches everywhere on on the used plate -- i could go on a on! other than that great staff and met nice people. — Anonymous , e (2011-04-22) Very nice place but expect to be woken by the cleaners in the morning! Very nice place, great to have a bathroom/shower and kitchen in each room -- saves you running down the corridor in a towel looking for the shower and was great to be able to have some coffee and toast in the morning before i went to work, without having to go down to the big kitchen. No microwave which would have been nice but not essential and there is a nice big back garden. Only problem was the cleaners have no respect for the sleeping!! I''m all for a clean room but they come into the room almost every morning talking really load to each other "HOW MANY PEOPLE IN THERE?? WHAAAAT?? TWO IS IT????'' and they start hoovering and changing the duvet covers while you are trying to sleep! Could they not do this a bit later in the day even about 11 a.m.? Anyway apart from that i would stay here again if i had some good earplugs so i could sleep though the hoovering next to my face in the mornings! — Emma , Ireland (2010-01-11) The Bunkhouse in Pine St., is one of the cleanest hostel in Sydney. Each room has its own toilet, bathroom, kitchenette, Fridge, microwave oven, TV makes it more of a 2 star hotel than just a backpacker. The rooms do not smell of cigarette smokes as smoking is not allowed. If you want to have a quiet night sleep u will get it here. It is great that it is not on the busy section or on the beach. The backyard is great when u dont want to go to surf. Highly recommended. Met many people who have stayed there before and all recommend their friend and returned to stay before leaving Australia. Several have returned and stayed in the Bunkhouse as it is great value for money -- no need to queue for showers or use toilets. Come and see for yourself. Also the free pick up for the ferry and drop off is great customer service. — Tiang (2006-11-09) The hostel was in a very reasonable state of cleanliness and staff helpful. There was ample facilities within the rooms and to have a TV, fridge, microwave, and en-suite shower room was fantastic. — Linda Froud (2006-08-04) This hostel was not clean, had very poor security and was overpriced for the facilities on offer. It just generally had a scruffy look and was more like a squat than a hostel. If you just want somewhere to sleep for the night and don't care about the conditions then you will love this place, but there are much better hostels in Manly for the same price. — Anonymous (2005-02-18)
