The Hostelz.com Review
After staying for two nights at Equity Point Madrid, we wouldn't go back. It isn't horrible but it just isn't worth the money paid. The atmosphere isn't so friendly, the staff hardly speaks English, and the amenities aren't great.
The Location
The only thing good about the hostel is its location. It's about five minutes from the metro station (Sol). When you get out of the station take your first left -- the street with Sephora. If you walk down the street with the pharmacy that is the wrong street. Then it's the third street on the right (the first main square you come to). It's close to everything you want to see and need, including laundry service (you pay for them to do it, it's not self-service) and grocery stores.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The only thing good about the rooms is that there is a bathroom inside the room. The beds are fairly comfortable for a hostel. But the room is very very hot!! There is no a/c and not even any fans! It is very loud at night with music, crowds, and parties from outside -- don't expect to go to sleep until 3 or 4 in the morning. There are no lockers in the rooms.
Common Spaces
The common space is a pretty good size, but it is a huge hostel, so it's almost always packed and you have to go sit in the breakfast room. There are computers to use (at no cost), but you only have thirty minutes at a time and then it kicks you off. There is also Wi-Fi. The internet only worked about sixty percent of the time we were there. Most people stay to themselves in the common space rather than mingling with everyone.
Summary
We would give the hostel about an average rating, but we wouldn't stay there again for that price. There definitely needs to be fans and lockers put in the rooms. They do offer breakfast in the morning -- tea/coffee, cereal, fruit, and packaged pastries. That is a plus. They also offer a free walking tour every morning at 11.
