The Hostelz.com Review
Hostel Lodi has everything you'd expect from a hostel just outside the center of Rome, apart from an oven/hobs for food cooking. There is a microwave and fridge to prepare food, which makes up for this partly. They have the best free breakfast we have ever had at a hostel -- fresh coffee (choice of anything from espresso to latte) a massive variety of pastries (you get two so you can take one for lunch), and a choice of cereals. There are two free PCs and free Wi-Fi that works very well. It is a little cold in the evenings so it's good to have a warm jumper if you're staying in the colder months.

The Location

Hostel Lodi is located about a thirty-minute walk from the Colosseum in Rome and about fifteen minutes from the nearest metro stop. The area is quite safe to walk around at night, so it's not a problem doing these walks late at night. There is an amazing little market-style shop nearby for fruit and vegetables, which is incredibly cheap also. It's quite accessible from the nearby train stations whether on foot (if you don't have too much luggage) or by public transport.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are very clean, and the beds are made for you every day. Our bed was really comfortable, but many of the other guests did mention their mattresses were a bit saggy in the middle or the sides. There are lockers for all your stuff, for which they provide a padlock if you don't have your own.

The bathrooms are all shared between the dorm rooms (private rooms have their own) and are kept very clean also. The bathrooms have shelves for all your stuff and a bathmat that is washed every day -- not something that happens a lot in our experience.

Common Spaces
The common spaces in Hostel Lodi could be improved -- the main place to sit in the evening is a little cold, as there is a door that opens straight out into the garden, which is great for the summer and for smokers, but not so good for the winter. There are no sofas to sit on and relax -- just a few chairs and tables -- however, no one seemed to let this stop them socialising. The common area is open all night, but expect to be told to quiet down after 11:30 p.m.

Summary
This hostel has the best hostel breakfast ever, free and reliable Wi-Fi, is a bit out of the center, and with very friendly staff. This is definitely a good place to stay if you don't mind a bit of a walk and like to mix a bit more with the locals than with the tourists.

5  Highly Recommend Staying in Hostel Lodi helped make my stay in Rome a fantastic one! I went with a group of five people. Four of us got to be in our own room while one of us was in a separate room upstairs. We knew this when we booked so we were fine with it. Our four person room had its own bathroom including a shower which was a great surprise! The room and bathroom was very clean and the shower had hot water and pressure. The free breakfast was yummy and the staff were exceptionally nice and helpful! They give great advice on what to see in the city and one night even sat with us to chat and drink wine. The common room is nice and has computers with free internet access although it is a little slow. Only downside is that it is a bit far from the metro station (20 minutes even though they tell you 10) but the walk is worth it!  , Canada ()
