The Hostelz.com Review
Fairly new to the scene, Porto Spot Hostel has a vibrant vibe, warm staff, clean facilities, and is easily accessible both from Trindade Metro Station and adjacent to the main shopping street of Porto. The daily home-cooked meals are a nice local touch -- they are specially made by the mother of one of the owners and an excellent way to sample the famous Porto cuisine.

The Location

The hostel is only six minutes' walk through the smaller exit of Trindade Metro Station, a key station that has connections to Porto's Airport. It is also adjacent to the northern end of Rua de Santa Catarina, one of Porto's most famous shopping districts.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Private rooms are available in this hostel on the ground floor. From a distant peek, they look suave and tastefully decorated -- similar to the rest of the hostel. Each room has secure key card access, and each dorm room is equipped with large, sturdy bed lockers that fit our slightly larger-than-normal cabin luggage with no problem. The communal bathrooms are bright and clean, with shelving space for your toiletries. If we gripe about anything in this hostel, it is that the size of the hooks outside the shower cubicles is insufficient for both your towels and clothes.

Common Spaces

The kitchen and breakfast bar is homey, well equipped, and free for common use. Drinks are well stocked, with a trustbox system and prices that are fairly reasonable. There is also a bar and open "courtyard" downstairs where drinks are served, with a TV lounge and games -- as well as two other common rooms (one a dedicated TV lounge and chillout area, the other an internet, library, and activity room). The clientele are friendly -- most of them during our stay were youngish backpackers, ranging from the overtly social to more reserved types, with a few families staying in the private rooms. The storage room is free to use, and also protected by key card access.

Summary

Overall, this is a warm and friendly hostel that is sociable, but not noisy. Twenty-four-hour reception staff are helpful locals with a good standard of English, and have excellent knowledge of what to do in Porto. The rooms are bright and airy with clean and comfortable beds. Sturdy lockers with locks are an added bonus, and overall the place is comfortable and easily accessible. The home-cooked food was a nice cherry to top it off -- overall we were made to feel very welcome here and would visit again.

5  Simply the best hostel I've been to. The summary says it all. In all aspects, they hit it off the park. Nothing else to say really.  , Canadian ()
