Hostelz.com's Review
The first thing that is noticeable when walking into Luoyang Yijia International Youth Hostel is the great art on the wall and the comfortable feel of the place.

The Location

If you catch the train to Luoyang, you can catch bus number 5 and carefully count the stops as it's easy to get lost in this hectic city. Get off at stop 10. The hostel is then thirty seconds away.
Ignore the people at the train station trying to give you alternative accommodation, as you don't where they'll take you.

There is a lot to see in Luoyang. The first ever Buddhist temple in China is located here and the LongMen Grottoes (Buddhist statues carved into caves) are truly not to be missed. The staff can help organise for you to be picked up from the hostel or they can show you how to get to the sights using public transport (not so easy by the way, but cheaper).

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm rooms are comfortable and clean. You can't hear the crazy amount of noise on the street, which is a real blessing when you want to rest after a day of walking and sightseeing.

The bathroom has a strange odour but you get used to it. There are two kinds of toilets -- the western style and the squat style. They are not the cleanest we've ever been to. It would really improve the place if they had some basic soap to wash your hands with after using the toilet. Some more toilet paper would also be nice!

Common Spaces

The common spaces are excellent. As soon as you walk up the stairs you will see some tables and chairs amongst the artwork, and then on your left is the reception with three rooms for socialising. They include two free internet terminals, a pool table, a bar, a projector screen where they show free movies, and a couch for socialising. You can have a few drinks, watch a movie, and easily meet people. The space is well designed, attractive, and very comfortable. There is even a kitchen with affordable food (not for you to cook, but for them to prepare something for you).

You can also buy tokens from the staff for using their laundry machines, which are fairly cheap. The washing machines are located on the top floor just outside the bathroom.

Summary

This hostel is not perfect but it is very comfortable. The staff, the common areas and the rooms are all that you could ask for from a hostel. The staff are super friendly and do their best to make their guests happy. Speak to them about where you can go to get a cheap meal, to arrange tours, and to get a map of the city. The national park visit is an awesome experience and well worth the money. The hostel's only weak point is the bathroom.

3   Average Close to a long street food area and an old street with a really local flavour, cleanliness not the best, but had a good vibe and staff were really helpful!  , age 25, Malaysia ()
4  Somewhat far from the train station. The location is great especially for the small streets around the hostel for finding good local eats. The rooms are clean and the halls are big/wide. Decent western toilet and shower.  , USA ()
5   Excellent place I've stayed in a double en-suite for 3 days, together with my boyfriend. The room was excellent: big, with a large window and a clean bathroom. The staff was very kind and helped us with tracing back some luggage. There was a laundry facility, the bar was cosy, and the coffee was very tasty (exceptional for china)!  , netherlands ()
