The Hostelz.com Review
Papa Germano is one of the friendliest, most conveniently located hostels in Rome. It started out as a family-run place and indeed the owner, Gino, still comes in each day to check how things are going. Make sure you say hello to him.

The Location

Papa Germano is located within a few minutes' walk of Termini train station and a few minutes to a metro station, so you can get around Rome very easily and quickly. And the Termini area has really improved in recent years and is no longer a seedy area. Plus there are some excellent restaurants around the hostel.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel rooms in Papa Germano only have three to four beds -- all single beds so you can sleep soundly without disturbing or being disturbed by anyone else. The rooms are all lockable, plus you also have to use a key to access your floor so it's very secure. The room also has cupboards/bedside cabinets for your things and there is a window and a TV.

The bathroom on our floor was not in the best shape. It was clean and adequate but the hinge to the shower door had come off which meant the water kept flooding into the room. Hopefully they'll have fixed this by now. We stayed on the top floor and as there is no elevator it is a bit of a hike each day.

Common Spaces

The main social area, is on the bottom floor where reception is, is open every day from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. Wi-Fi is accessible here for free or you can use their computers. There are a few places for seating or you can sit in the dining area that is used for breakfast in the morning.

Summary

The breakfast at Papa Germano is indeed one of the best you'll find in Rome. It's a full continental type which means you can get tea, coffee, water, or juice -- that's just to drink. Then there's ham, cheese, eggs, bread, fruit, croissants, cereal, jam, chocolate, toast, and more to eat. You're guaranteed to start the day well fed. This is definitely a place to put on your must-stay list in Rome. We will definitely be coming back.

5  We stayed there a week, and every day was wonderful. The rooms were always clean and the staff were exceptionally helpful. A real treat and convenience was the almost daily street market just around the corner from the hotel, where we bought the best fruits, cheese, and bread for our breakfast as well as lunch -- at dirt-cheap prices. The local evening dining was superb. A convenient laudromat was also around the corner, as well as many other shops that are useful to travelers. Very convenient location. Highly recommended.  ()
5  This place was excellent... a little expensive but the staff, they showed us all the great places to see. And gave good recommendations and directions! The place was really clean... and airconditioned!!! There were lots of great shopping streets and restaurants nearby and it takes about 5-7 minutes to walk to the metro/train station, also walking distance from the trevi and the coloseum! It was excellent. We stayed there twice!  ()
