Echternach Youth Hostel is in a great location, right in the centre of town, around the corner from a super market and a five minute walk from the bus station. It's quite an old building which has been a hostel for 50 years and must have been very stylishly decorated in about 1975. Despite the decor in the common areas, the bedrooms are clean and simple, with linen included. Breakfast, consisting of cereal, bread, spreads, meat, cheese, coffee and tea, is also included. There is a very simple kitchen for guest use which is clean, but lacks most cooking appliances and implements.
There is a nice relaxed atmosphere here. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a lock-out from 11am-5pm, but you can still use the outside area and TV room. The bathrooms are clean and maintained. The showers are only available 7am-11am and 5pm-10pm, and if you don't like showering with up to seven other people perhaps this is not the place for you! The shower room is just one big room with eight showers in it.
Common areas are well laid out and good for socializing. The TV room even has some English speaking TV. Outside a large veranda houses the ping-pong table and beyond that there is a barbeque area and a basketball court. This hostel has one of those "only one key per room" systems that don't really work with dorms. Security is not intense but the building is locked whenever reception is closed and there are lockers. It's a pretty sleepy little town and it feels safe enough anyway.
There is no train station in Echtanach, but it is well serviced by busses. When you get off at the bus station walk up the pedestrian street a few hundred meters. When the street sort of comes to a T junction go right and the hostel is a few doors up on your left. If you have a car there is parking at the hostel.

I was there in winter so the place was deserted. When I got up in the morning nobody was around. There was no breakfast as advertised. I waited until it was too late to check out according to the signs. Nobody came. I had to take my key away with me and make an unplanned trip back to Echternach in the evening.
