Generally good, reasonably priced place to stay
I stayed here with a friend in December 2005 in a private room. The room had two single beds, a sink, a cupboard (with safe), and TV. Although small, it was comfy enough to hang out in when it was raining at night. It was generally clean, but the share bathrooms were hit and miss, and I agree that one bathroom was always cleaner than the other. We eventually figured out when they cleaned them and would use the showers straight after. The front desk staff were friendly and we didn't find it noisy, but the lift is very small for luggage. The hotel coffee is much nicer than the place across the road. Overall, it's an excellent location at a reasonable price and my friend even stayed here again in December 2007.

We ended up at this hostel after there was a problem with our room at our original hostel. Bit of a relief really, as the area around the termini was quite dodgy and this hostel being a few blocks back meant that it was quieter. Dorms were cramped but clean and although most bedding was provided they didnt give you a top sheet, which meant you were sleeping with the blanket that everyone else had used before you on top of you. Yuck. I didn't use mine, I used my sleeping bag inner. Bathrooms were clean although there were two sets of bathrooms and one was definitely better than the other! Roof terrace was lovely. Staff friendliness was a bit hit and miss -- it's a hotel too and they didnt like the hostel and hotel guests to mix! We saw how the other half lived! As someone esle has stated -- the hostel "served its purpose"!

This is a pretty terrible hostel. The service is not great, and it is impossible to sleep — the rooms are packed full, and they are off the central door, so it is very loud all night as people enter and exit. There are also too few showers. The positives are that it is fairly cheap and is fairly near Termini. Pick a different hostel.

We'd highly recommend this hostel to anyone. We stayed here a few years back when we were backpacking. We were impressed with the service; they were very accommodating. The hostel and bathrooms were clean, other guests were friendly (we even ended up making friends with some of the other guests and traveled with them for a week) and the atmosphere was light. The best part? Probably the rooftop terrace...a great space to relax, sunbathe and drink a little vino (which is conveniently available in the cafe of the hostel).

I stayed at this hostel for a few nights and would say it served its purpose, but I would not recommend it to anyone else. The common room was pretty dingy and not really enticing. (I guess who wants to stay in, when in Rome though anyway). We found our room really noisy, as it was just near the common room. The showers were nice and hot and the rooftop terrace would be a bonus in warmer weather. Great pizza joint just around the corner!!

This hostel provided quite decent arrangements at affordable rates. The rooms were a bit crowded but clean and it was safe to leave personal belongings in the room during the day. It is very close to Rome's Termini station and satisfactory on the whole. Another toilet and a couple more showers will make it better.

We actually stayed in a triple room in the hotel annex, which is four blocks away from the hotel. The room was nice and quiet, clean, with a very nice and clean bathroom that was shared. However, we were told at check in that breakfast was included, and when we went to breakfast the next morning they were rather rude and told us that breakfast wasn't included. Oh well. It was a good value. The annex is only a couple of blocks from Termini train station, right by several Internet cafes, supermarkets, and great restaurants.

I agree it's well located, and nice and clean. But watch out for the dorms! Sometimes it may mean something else than you think! If you would call a dorm a 2x2 space, a piece of corridor basically cut off, with a hole in the wall preventing you from asphyxiation but at the same time allowing you the participation in the intense bathroom life, here you are.

The place is really nice. It has a big common room, but no kitchen!! Plus, there is no sheet to cover you from the blanket you use, so you sleep under a blanket other people have slept under before. Reception makes you feel like you're checking into a five-star hotel. Real nice. Free Internet.

This hostel is nice and clean, and it has free Internet! The rooms are quite crowded but clean, and the beds are comfy. The location is good, and the atmosphere is friendly. The place could do with a couple more showers, but overall it's a nice hostel.

This hostel was clean and fairly cheap. It's very close to Termini station and the subway. The free Internet was also a huge bonus. There was an incident on our last night, though. We stayed in a dorm room with six other people. It was after midnight and we had to get up early to catch a train to Florence. People were asleep when the manager came into the room. He turned on the lights and then installed a cot bed for a girl whose reservation he had lost. He wasn't very polite, either. Except for that "incident" it was a good hostel.

I was here in December and it was grand. The staff were really friendly; chilled and helpful. The rooftop terrace was great for drinking beer or coffee, and the free Internet was busy but nice. Who cares, anyway; you're in Roma. They had a special rate for December so check it out if you are going at this time.

Best hostel I've stayed at. The people are cool, the rooms are comfy, and the bathrooms are super clean. I was shocked that this could be a hostel. It's also pretty centrally located. I'd definitely stay here again.

The great thing about Des Artistes is that it is actually one floor of a three-star hotel, so you can bet that the service is going to be better than your average hostel. The bathrooms were big and, for the most part, clean. I've seen worse. The Internet was free, and usually available. There isn't a kitchen, which is kind of a downside, but there is a cafe right across the street where you can get breakfast, and a little pizza place around the corner where you can get full for three euros! The people I met here were very nice, although not incredibly social. The hostel itself was quiet. My only complaint: sleeping with the windows open, we heard people at a nearby bar singing loudly all night long! Oh, and the stairs were a pain at times, too. But I would stay here again. It's great!

It was great staying at Des Artistes. The guy at the reception was really cool. He helped me a lot and told me a lot of information about the city. I would recommend to everybody this place. Also, the Homer's Pubcrawl was great; you can get the flyers here. For having a good time and meeting nice people and staff, go to this place. Ciao!
