The Hostelz.com Review
Euro Youth Hotel is a fun, social place where it is very easy to meet other backpackers and explore Munich.

The Location

The location of the Euro Youth Hotel is perfect for any backpacker. It is very accessible and easy to locate, as it is only eighty meters from the main train station (five minutes' walk or less). If you leave the station from the exit next to platform 11, turn left onto Bayerstrasse then take the first right into Senefelderstrasse. The hostel is number 5 and is on the left-hand side of the street. The city centre is also a short walk away (five to ten minutes approximately), and the street is home to at least two other popular youth hostels, making the neighborhood very backpacker-friendly.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are very clean and spacious. Each dorm room has its own lock and also large lockers in the room (locks not provided). The dorms include two-bed, three-bed, four-bed, five-bed, and twenty-two-bed room options. The beds are wooden, comfortable, and look new. The larger dorm rooms include wooden bunks of the same model. All rooms have a sink, a table with chairs, and a telephone. Private rooms also have a television. The bathrooms are tidy and modern. The showers are clean and have soap dishes, and there is adequate space to change (though some showers lack hooks and shelves). It is possible to book a room with a shower and toilet in the room, but the hallway showers/bathrooms are perfectly clean and modern.

Common Spaces

The main common area is on the first floor adjacent to the reception area. The space is divided into three sections -- the first has computer/internet access, as well as tables to sit and eat either the snacks/sandwiches sold at the bar or snacks purchased elsewhere. The second area includes the bar, which is fairly large with seating around the bar to eat, drink, and socialize. The third area has couches, tables, and a large, flat screen TV mounted on the wall. Board games are also available in the third section of the common area. This is a very social hostel where it is very easy to meet fellow backpackers. There is no kitchen, but the hostel offers a variety of tasty and affordable snacks (Munich pretzels, paninis), as well as free tea. Breakfast (included in some room options) is an excellent buffet served in the common area.

Summary

The Euro Youth Hotel is an incredible base to investigate Munich. The staff are very friendly and offer advice on the city (a map is provided upon check-in). The bar/common area is one of the best in Europe, making it clear to see why the Euro Youth Hotel is one of Europe's famous hostels!

Great
This hostel was the best quality I've stayed at! If youre going to Munich, you should definitely go to this hostel! The rooms are extremely clean and the staff make our bed for you, which is nice especially if you get into Munich late, as I did. also, there are two sinks in room and lights above each with a light above each bed as well. This is an extremely clean hostel -- the bathrooms are very nice and spotless with great spacious showers and changing areas. There is also free Wi-Fi everywhere in the hostel. There is an area to store your luggage there, and the reception is twenty-four/seven. Security cards are needed for the elevators, stairs, and rooms themselves. There is also a bar in hostel which was open pretty late, at least until 3 a.m. The breakfast was also good enough with a big screen TV to catch up on news on -- a welcome comfort while interrailing. Oh! And staff are super nice and helpful. Free printing as well. Also big luggage lockers in room -- only gripe about this hostel, there were only four lockers for a five-bed room. But much recommended.

Fantastic!
I and two friends stayed here in December last year for a few days and we all agreed the Euro Youth Hotel far exceeded our expectations. The prices are really great and the facilities numerous. The security is top notch with access to bedrooms and dorms restricted with electronic key cards, which also block access to even the staircase and lift to prevent anyone wandering about the place who shouldn't be there. The rooms still have lockable lockers for which you bring your own padlock. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the building and internet access on PCs downstairs. The bar is lively and packed and the staff friendly and helpful, not to mention fluent in numerous languages. The beds were clean and very comfortable and gave even me, a very light sleeper, a good night's sleep. The location couldn't be better -- the main station has an entrance virtually opposite Senefelderstraße and so is just a few minutes walk away. You have main rail, tram, and underground links from here and also just a short five- to ten-minute walk from the city centre. There are loads of shops, arcades, and places to eat-in or take-away in the roads immediately around the hostel and a large Easy Internet centre minutes away. In short, everything you could need and right where you need it. An even larger group of us are going back this year for sixteen days and I can't wait! I couldn't recommend this hostel more highly!

Very Enjoyable and Comfortable stay
This was a very nice and very convenient place to stay. The price was low and fair, and the location is perfect! It is close to the Marienplatz and all the other main attractions in Munich, and fifty meters from the train station. The staff was friendly and helpful, and there was ample information about the town and also info about many interesting tours and day-trips in the region. In short, the hostel provides information which will help the visitor find inexpensive and interesting things to do while staying in Munich. Rent bikes, tour beer halls, visit a castle, or even go to Austria. The room I had was clean, and the bathrooms were clean also. My only complaints are that the internet lab computers were expensive and half of them did not work, and two mornings in a row our wake-up call that we requested the night prior did not come. Despite those small inconveniences, I very much enjoyed my stay and would recommend the Euro Youth Hostel to anyone wanting a convenient and fun place to stay in Munich.

The ladies at the front desk were rude. Management was ridiculous. The rooms were bad. Overall the Euro Youth Hostel was a waste of time, money, and effort. Save yourself, stay somewhere else!

I stayed here two nights in Jan '07. I really enjoyed my stay here. The rooms were really nice and really clean. It's really close to the train station and not far from the city center. The staff at the reception desk was friendly and helpful. The best feature of this hostel is definitely the bar. The drinks are really cheap, the bartenders are cute and friendly, and everyone seems to be having a good time. Even a shy person can strike up a conversation with a stranger.

In traveling throughout Europe for four months, this was the only place to charge an extra fee for using a credit card. Wake up, this is 2007 -- not 1997. Everyone uses credit cards now. In the rooms, the floor boards creak every time you take a step and it is loud. It wakes everyone up. Just pull up the floor boards, put down some padding between the floor boards and the joists and your problem is solved. Do not be cheapskates. The bar/TV area is great -- except if you are a non-smoker. Thick smoke everywhere.

I stayed here for three nights in May 2006. It's a big but clean hostel with nice staff and clean washrooms/showers, which I liked. Particularly nice is that you get a fresh clean towel every day, so you don't have to air out your same towel in the room while you are gone and make the room dank. The location is amazingly convinient (although there are lots of other hostels on the same block in Munich). Security is a system where you ask for a key when you arrive and leave behind when you return, which is alright. Lockers in the rooms are good. I only have small complaints about this place. It is a party type hostel where people are often loud at all hours, which can sometimes interfere with sleep. The mens showers had a push button timer mechanism that lasted about five seconds, so you basically had to keep one hand on a button to take a shower -- very annoying. There are only two internet terminals for the entire place that are always in use and are over priced, though there is a huge cheap internet cafe just east of the hauptbahnhof. Overall, this place is pretty good, I'd stay there again.

This place was perfect for a few nights stay. Rooms and facilites were clean and working. Staff were friendly and helpful, keep an eye out for the Ipswich Town supporter who helped sort things out. Only problem was the one key for each room -- not good if you have to keep knocking to get let in! Otherwise the place was perfect.

Our family of five stayed here one night on the seventh of june and we had a great time. The staff is very friendly and helped us to get a free tour of Munich. They also let us leave our bags in the storage room and take a shower before we even checked in which was great since we had just come in on a night train. We stayed in a five-bed, mixed dorm which was great for us since we are five and we used the bathroom on that floor. The room was really big and the beds were very nice. I did laundry that night. It took a long time, which was unfortunate but the prices were not too bad. There is a lot of partying going on in the bar and the place really never sleeps downstairs in the bar area but up in the rooms as long as your group is quiet as ours was it's really quiet and you cannot hear all the action going on downstairs! It was really smokey in the bar area but it does not travel past there. Where the rooms are it is quiet, smokeless, and clean. I would have no problem staying here again.

This hostel is pretty good overall. The location is really the highlight. Its very central and near the hauptbahnhof. Also marianplatz and hofbrauhaus are nearby. The rooms are quite nice and there is fast internet. Also the bar is quite lively and actually a good place to hangout. Overall, the place to stay in Munich.

Fantastic! I stayed here in December and really enjoyed my visit. I was in a 4 bed dorm that gave us each a large cubby, and had two sinks and mirrors along with a common table and phone in the room. The showers on the floor were great, as they were in a seperate room with locking door so that you had a place to change and put your stuff. Always hot water and no timers! The lights were motion-activated but they never turned off on me at an inopportune moment. The breakfast was alright but yes, there is a guy who hounds you for meal tickets. There's laundry and internet, and a good bar that makes it very easy to meet fellow travellers even if you don't drink. The staff was very helpful and I never had a problem here. Also, the location is spectacular - just a block away from the train station, the metro, and a short walk into the city centre. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking to visit Munich!

We loved this hostel! The rooms were spacious, and they were probably the most comfiest beds we have ever stayed in in europe! The bathrooms were clean and new, tho the second floor ones were better. The bar was great, as you get all the guests from Wombats and a few others, come to party it up here. Its also a great place to meet fellow aussies! The staff were great, and up for a party! And the Munich beer halls are a must! And if you get a chance, make sure you see the castles in fussen. They are fantastic! We loved our stay in munich, and a great hostel definitely makes a difference!

Decent, and very friendly. Lovely bar, good crowd! And the big dorms were fine, but a bit loud. Don't expect much sleep with the light going on and off. But it was a very relaxed and chilled place to stay in a refreshing and fun city.

It just can't live up to the hype. It's clean, noisy, not really safe (I really like the card system), and has good Internet access. Bathrooms can be busy at times.
