How is The Hipstel rated?

The Hipstel Reviews

The Hipstel is a fairly large hostel located in the Eixample neighborhood of Barcelona. The hostel is situated up a few flight of stairs in an old, mansion-style building, and there is no elevator to take you upstairs. The dormitories are either on the hostel reception floor or on the floors directly above, but there is an elevator to take to the dormitories upstairs. The reception area and downstairs are extremely busy and not a relaxing atmosphere, but if the traveler likes a trendy place this may be a place to try out.

The Location

The location of The Hipstel hostel is convenient, located close by to the major sights in Barcelona and there are buses and Metro stops nearby. There are many shops and restaurants within walking distance and overall this is a good location. The neighborhood is safe and upscale with many shopping options, and there are benches and parks nearby outside to relax.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dormitory is acceptable with average cleanliness. There are lockers in the rooms and each bed has a plug next to it. There is free Wi-Fi. The linen and blankets are clean and acceptable and there are little shelves next to each bed, which is a good added touch to keep water or drinks. The pillows are flat and not very comfortable. The bathrooms are problematic, because they are so small and combined with a shower room and sink, but with no lock on the room and no male/female designation. The toilets are below average cleanliness, and the shower area is extremely small. This room is troublesome, because the shower area does not lock and anyone could come into the room during someone's shower.

Common Spaces

The common area consists of a large, old-style area with seating, kitchen, and outdoor seating in the back of the hostel behind the reception area. There are a lot of old-style touches that add to the feeling of the hostel to be unique, stylish, and antique. The kitchen is available to cook until 8 p.m., when the cook takes over the kitchen. There are spices for free use for cooking, and a refrigerator for storing food. The seating area is very antique style. There is laundry service available for a fee. The kitchen and common area are extremely busy and not very relaxing.

Summary

Overall, this a fine hostel, not recommended for comfort or cleanliness, but if you are looking for a trendy hostel with many young people, this might be the place to choose. It's situated in an excellent neighborhood.
