Honolulu is the capital of the state of Hawaii and is a city of opposites; it fuses its Polynesian past with its American present.

If you are looking for a hostel in Honolulu, there are several suburbs to consider. Downtown is the geographical heart of the city and boasts the most major attractions including Chinatown. Waikiki is the place to be if you want to party all night and shop all day. However, it's packed with tourists and you should be aware that this is the most expensive area to stay. Kakaʻako is located between Downtown and Waikiki and is a good choice when looking for a hostel in Honolulu if you are on a budget since it can easily be reached from both Downtown and Waikiki but is much less expensive.

Honolulu International Airport is connected to the city center by bus, but be aware that large suitcases are not allowed on the buses. If you are traveling with luggage, you'll have to take a private shuttle bus or a taxi. Getting around the city from your Honolulu hostel should not be a problem because there is an extensive public transportation system for you to use. Within the city limits, you can even walk to many places.

While staying in your Honolulu hostel, you can take a guided tour at Iolani Palace and learn about Hawaii’s past. Visit the Honolulu Academy of Arts, the Bishop Museum, or the Waikiki Aquarium. Climb up Aloha Tower and take a picture in front of the famous King Kamehameha Statue. Treat yourself to some dumplings in Chinatown and shop ‘til you drop in Waikiki. If you have some extra time, take an island tour and see secluded beaches and sea turtles on the shore.
