This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Espot.

Espot is a small town that is the administrative capital of the Espot municipality in Spain. Found in the Espot Valley, just east of the Noguera Pallaresa river, this town is slowly becoming more popular as a tourist destination. From the friendly people and experiences at the hostel to the national parks and natural attractions, this is a town worth visiting.

Indeed, one of the best places to start exploring after settling in at a hostel in Espot is the National Park of Aiguestortes. There is a single taxi service running to it from Espot, consisting of a fleet of off-road jeeps. Inside the park, you can take another jeep up to the peak of the mountain of Escantats, located in the park. You can then trek down to the lake in the valley before heading back to town and to your hostel. Both the lake and the mountain are prime spots to enjoy a relaxing day out interspersed with adventure and exercise.

The hiking trails in the area are well-marked and are made to enjoy. Pack a picnic lunch and head out, but take your time as you go along. Be sure to take the scenic route when you travel through the valley of Boi, about an hour and a half from the town of Espot. This route is also called the Romanesque Route because you get to see multiple churches with Romanesque architecture.

While here, go to the ski resort, Espot Esqui, which one of the features that makes the city a must-visit in the area. Walk around the town as well and check out the Pyrenean buildings, such as the old church of Santa Llogaia and the ancient Moros tower, a Middle Ages watchtower that stands today. There are other old buildings and ruins in the region. Make sure you ask within your hostel for directions to the best sites in and around the city.
