Get to know Lipari (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Lipari.

Guess what? Lipari is also named and spelled Canneto Lipari - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

Lipari is a town on the island of Lipari in Italy. It is the most populated island in the Aeolian Islands, located right off the coast of Sicily, Italy. Lipari city is the largest town of all the islands. It is full of life, exploding with history, and features interesting activities for anyone to participate in. Made out of volcanic rock with a dormant volcano on the island, it is a great place to embark on an Italian adventure.

Hostels in Lipari are available in and around the town at very affordable rates. Authentic, delicious Italian cuisine is served at many of the hostels and restaurants in town. The friendly, local staff at any of the hostels on the island and in the town, adds to the overall experience here. You can usually find hostels near the major landmarks on the island, including the ferry and harbor.

One of the best things about Lipari is the lack of tourists. While it is definitely one of the main tourist spots in the area, the town is large enough that you do not feel like there is overcrowding, especially if you avoid the months of July and August. Ferries are available at the harbor and can take you to neighboring islands, the mainland, and to the other small towns around Lipari City.

In the town itself, there is a museum that has exhibits dating back centuries—the island is thought to have been inhabited thousands of years ago. There are also many ancient Greek structures, such as necropolises, that can be found in the museum. Many ruined settlements can be visited on the other islands. Volcanic obsidian rock souvenirs can be purchased at the gift shops in Lipari.

The town is full of small streets and quaint lanes, as well as townhouses with historic architecture featured throughout. The people are very friendly, and the friendliness of the inhabitants can be experienced in the hostels, bars, restaurants, and tour centers on the island.
